Accordingtothethreecellconvectionmodelofeachhemispherethe
Earthneatlyseparatesitselfintothreedistinctclimatezonesthepolar,
temperate,andthetropicalzones.Asrecordkeepingandtechnology
advanced,anewsystemwasdevelopedthatwasbasedonclimate
controlsandtheevapotranspirationindexofanarea.Thenewsystemis
calledtheKopensystemnamedafterWladimirKoppen.Withinthe
systemthereare5majorclimatezoneseachwith2ormoresubclimates.
Eachisdefinedfirstbyitstemperatureandsecondbyitsprecipitation
characteristics.
