Endangered Species Position Paper

The rapidly growing list of endangered species around the world is a growing problem
today. There are 16,306 species that are currently endangered. It is estimated that around 10,000
species go extinct every year and the rate is increasing. Species can become endangered for
many reasons including: destruction of habitat, pollution, poaching and more. Lately, Russia has
been cracking down on all of these things by adding laws and tougher penalties. In 2013 Russia
implemented tougher penalties on the smuggling or poaching of endangered animals, raising the
fine to 1.1 million Rubles.
The endangerment of different species has become much more of an international
concern within the past decade. Biodiversity and habitat destruction as well as many animals that
are currently facing extinction make this an international concern. This problem first arose and
became an important issue in the 1900s, when pollution and habitat destruction started to
become a problem. Russia has taken actions in the past in attempt to slow down or stop this
problem. In the past Russia, as well as many other countries in the UN, have made laws against
the poaching and trafficking of endangered animals. These laws are an important action taken in
order to help protect these struggling species. In 2013 of the worlds energy consumption
came from renewable resources. This is partially because of the UNs hard work to make the use
of renewable resources more affordable and accessible. This lowers the amount of pollution
released into the air, which helps humans and animals alike. Currently there is still endangered
animal trafficking, poaching, and growing rates of pollution that make it difficult for endangered
species to survive.
Animals are an important part of Russian heritage. Its an important part of daily life and
the Earths biodiversity. Currently, Russia is also struggling with a pollution problem that is not
only effecting the well being of the Russian people, but also the well being of the endangered
animals that inhabit Russia. Russia is one of the most polluted places in the world. Because of
their massive water and air pollution, many animals die from some sort of pollution-related
illness on a large scale every year. If Russia can cut back the amount of pollution it releases in
the atmosphere and water each year, it will significantly help the environment around the world.
Idealy, Russia would do this by using more renewable resources and less fossil fuels. The
endangered animals that inhabit Russia also face habitation loss. In Russia, there are large
amounts of deforestation that affect the animals. If Russia can limit or stop the amount of logging
it is currently doing, this will greatly benefit the endangered animals in Russia. Implementing
these solutions will not only help the animals in Russia, but help the world as well in aiding in
our current biodiversity challenge.
