Reflection of Placement/Student Teaching
Today I was filled with mixed emotions. I was saddened by the realization that I would
continue with my student teaching at a different placement. This sudden change left me distraught as I
did not have enough time to say goodbye to all the students I have gotten to know over the past few
months. Furthermore, I was able to create a wonderful relationship with my teachers and I was
saddened by the fact that I would not have the support and the help of my cooperating teachers, who
were instrumental in aiding and guiding me in preparing me to become an educator. It was nice to feel
trusted as an educator.
Change can be a difficult concept to handle when you have invested so much of your time,
patience, resources, and care to a particular class. Yet, without change there would not be an
opportunity to be exposed to the different environment, students, teaching styles, and resources. I was
unsure of how my cooperating teacher and new students would receive me. My placement in Ms.
Reynoso's class tested my patience, and at times pushed my limits which in return caused me to grow
and improve in my teaching. For this reason, I decided to take a proactive approach, I have garnered
enough experience through my observation and placements that in moving on to my new placement it
was essential for me to show confidence in my knowledge and skills. Instead of dwelling on the past, I
confronted those fears head on, reminding myself that great teachers adapt to all forms of changes. This
is indeed a new adventure, filled with a whole new set of students with different abilities and
personalities. Along with a different teacher with a different management and teaching style.
I hope to gain as much in this placement as I did in my first placement. One thing is certain, the
experience of changing placements allowed me to see that as a teacher, it is sometimes hard to say
goodbye to the familiar but it is my goal to look at change as a way to always be learning, improving
and developing.
