Solar Panels
By Hector Lizarraga and Ayden Kennedy
Our school has decided to get solar panels. Solar panels are
important because you dont want to waste electricity and it helps
save money for our school. We are working on a solar panel project
at our school. The kinds of assignments students are doing in class for
solar panels are researching where we should put the solar panels.
We are also going to be writing reports about the solar panel projects.
We also have interviewed people and got their opinions. Samantha
Humphreys in fifth grade said that we should place solar panels on
the new two-story building. Hadyn Haro in third grade said that we
should place the solar panels on the MPR. Ayden Kennedys mom
said that the solar panels should be on a new building or ramada
because the building or ramada might be too old to support the
solar panels.
Upcoming Trip to the Symphony
Orchestra Concert
By Ricky Romo and Michael Arvizu
The date for our fieldtrip to the symphony will be May 5th. We are so
excited we get to watch a fabulous musical concert. The symphony
orchestra includes string, brass, wind, and percussion instruments. It has
the strings like the violin, cello, viola, and bass. The brass includes the
trumpet, trombone, tuba, and French horn. Woodwinds like flutes,
clarinet, saxophone, oboe, and bassoon. The groups that have visited our
school were the strings, woodwinds, and brass but not percussion.
When we go to the symphony, we need to be respectful since they are
playing music for us. When we are there we should be kind and
compliment them for their music and cheer for them. Overall, were
excited to hear talented music and to see the musicians all together.
Ricky plays the trumpet and Michael plays the cello.
Starbase Graduation
By Mi Meh, Joseph Sahuaqu i, Jazlyn Loya, and Axcel Urrea
There is going to be a Starbase Graduation on Friday May 15th. We will be meeting in the
MPR at 12:00 pm. This is happening because fifth graders have completed 25 hours of
Starbase, so we are celebrating. Some of the things we did at Starbase were spectacular,
like the scavenger hunt, launching our rockets, and saving Lieutenant Eggbert. All of the
teams competed for a couple of these events but only some teams won. The teams that won
earned a special prize. Some of the prizes were a glow in the dark egg, and a globe stress
ball. Those prizes were really amazing and fun to play with. Jazlyns favorite part about
Starbase was when we had to do the scavenger hunt because we got to learn new things
like using a GPS. Mi Mehs favorite part was when we did the Lieutenant Eggbert mission
because it involved the engineering process and she really likes engineering.
In conclusion, we did a variety of missions and we earned mission tags and that is what
the Graduation is for, to celebrate our accomplishments.

MAP Testing
By Angelina Ruiz and Christian Villegas
The dates for MAP testing for our class are
May 5th and May 11th.
While MAP testing students should never give
attitude to the teacher, they shouldnt cheat,
talk, and no phones or iPods are allowed.
On the morning of the test it is important to
eat a good breakfast and to go to sleep early.
During the test it is okay to take as much
time you need. If youre wondering what MAP
stands for it is the Measure of Academic
Performance. The different tests are
mathematics and language arts. In Mrs.
Cordells 5th grade class we got our map test
scores from the beginning of the year and we
are now working on our goal for the end of
the year scores. We are also defining
important vocabulary that could be used on
the test.
