Atthebeginningofthissemesterifeltmoreconfidentinmyworkthanthebeginningof
lastsemesterbutIstillneededtoimproveinmywritingskills.English113Bhasopenedup
manydoorsforme.Inhighschool,theyonlytaughtushowtowriteaessayonewaybutinthis
coursetheytaughtusthattherearemanydifferentstructuresandstrategiesthatIcanuse.I
thoughtwritingwasonlyforenglishclassbutaftertakingenglish113b,Irecognizedthati
wouldusemywritingskillsformanyothertasks.Overthiscourse,IhavelearnedmorethanI
thoughtwaspossible.Ilearnedhowtowriteandexpressmyselfthroughthewriting.Thiscourse
hashelpedmeinmanywaysincludinggrammar,thesisstructure,counterargumentand
introductionparagraph.

First,grammarwasdifficultformesincethebeginningofessaywriting.Iunderstoodit
andlearnedallthedifferenttypesofgrammarbuttherewouldstillbemistakesinmywork.Over
thissemester,withmorepracticeIcanpointoutsomegrammarmistakesinmypastworksthati
wouldhavenotnoticedayearago.Grammarsstillmyweakestwritingskillbutiwould
continueonpracticingandtryhardereverytime.Iunderstoodhowtousesemicolonsorcolons
butattimesIwouldmisplacethemorforgettoaddthem.Aftersomeresearchonpurdueowl,I

canclearlyseewhenitsneededtoaddasemicolonoracolon.Someofthestudentsmayhave
thoughtthatthiscoursewehadtowritealotofessaysorwehadtoalotofprojectshoweverI'm
actuallygladthatthiscoursecontainedmanypractice.IusedtohatewritingessaysbutnowI
enjoywriting.Englishusedtobemyleastfavoritesubjectbutwithcoursealoveforthissubject
grew.

Second,Inmanyofmyessaystheweakpointwasinmythesisorargument.For
example,Iwouldknowwhatwasmypointintheessaybutcouldnotputitinstrongwords.I
couldnotcoverthewhyandso.Mythesiswouldbepoorlystructuredandpoorlyworded.AsI
wentthroughthiscourse,mythesisweregettingstrongeranditsnoticeablefromalltheessaysi
wrotethisyear.IwouldhavemycolleaguesrevisemythesisbuthoweverIwasstillreceiving
feedbackthatmythesiswasalittleunclearoritcontainedtoomuchinformation.Mypast
teacherswouldteachthatmythesishadtohavethreepointsandIhadtotalkaboutmythree
pointsinmybodyparagraph.Butinthiscourse,weweretaughtthatourthesiscanjustinclude
theoverallviewofthepointandsupportitinthebodyparagraphs.Movingpastthethreepoint
thesis,hasopenedmymind.Idon'tfeellimitedtooneessaystructure.Anotherdetailthathelps
mesupportmythesisorargumentismytone.Wheniwanttopersuasivemyreader,Iwould
havetowriteinanacademictone.

Third,afterworkingandpracticingwritingthesisstatementsandagreements,theywere
strongandgaveapoint.Butistillstruggledwithmycounterargument.TheLRChelpedmealot
withbrainstormingideasformyessays,alsowithallthehelpIwasabletoconstructone.I

learnedthatinmycounterargumentIhavetostatetheoversideofmyargumentwhichpeople
mayhave.ButIhavetorefuteitandstatehowmysideoftheargumentisbetterandsupportit
bygivingnoexamples.

Finally,theintroductionparagraphofmyessayhasimproved.Inmypastintroduction
paragraphsiwouldaddtoolittleortoomuchinformation.Inthepast,whenIaddedtoomuch
informationIwouldmakemythesisorargumentsoundweakbecauseitwasoverpoweredwith
theextrainformationthatwasnotneeded.Ihavealwaysbeenathinkerbutwhenitcameinto
writingmyintroductionparagraph,myideaswouldbegone.Butafterthiscourseilearnedhow
tobrainstormandsetanoutlinewhichcanmakeiteasiertowritemyessay.

Inconclusion,English113bhashelpedmeinmanywayincludinggrammar,thesis
structure,counterargumentandintroductionparagraph.Ihavemoreconfidenceinmyown
writingsandnotafraidtotryanyEnglishsubjectobstaclesthatwouldcometomelaterinmy
education.IchallengemyselfeverydaytodobetterthanthedaybeforeandIdidthesamewith
myessays.Duringthesemesteriwasfacedwithdeadlines,rulesandassignments.Ienjoyed
everystepofthewaytotheendofthesemester.Everytaskandassignmentihavedone,itmade
mestrongerinmywriting.Ihaveaccomplishedmanygoalsthatithoughtthatwereimpossible
toreach.Ihavenotonlygrownasawriterorasastudentbutalsoasaperson.Throughenglish
113aand113b,ihavegainedtheknowledgeandtheconfidenceineedfortherealworld.
