TheCausesofKennedyandEffectsoftheWar
OnJanuary20,1961,JohnF.KennedywasinauguratedintotheUnitedStates
presidentialofficeandgavehisinauguralspeech.Aroundthistime,Americawasinthemiddle
oftheColdWar,thespaceracehadcommenced,andCubastarteddriftingawayfromtheUnited
Stateseconomicallyandpolitically.Duetothecoldwarandtheriseofcommunism,America
hadtotakeastandandmakesomemovesoftheirown.Becauseofmanythreatsarisingfromthe
SovietUnionandcommunism,Kennedyaddressedmanyissuesinvolvingwarandproposed
manyideasofpeaceandspreadingdemocracyinhisspeech.
BetweentheSovietUnionandCuba,therewasaninfluxofpressureontheUnitedStates
surroundingtheuprisingthreatofnuclearwar.Kennedywasdevotedtotryingtocreatepeace.
Heapproachedthetopicwithprecisewordingsothathedidnotappearaggressiveorasifhewas
preparedforwar.Duetothecreationofnuclearweapons,theworldwasafraidofanysortofwar
tobreakoutbecausetherewasthepossibilityofnuclearweaponstobeused.WithCuba
officiallyacommuniststateandnowcutofffromthesupportofAmerica,theSovietUniontook
advantageoftheiropportunitytocollaboratewithCuba.America,beingsuspiciousofCuban
activity,wasabletodiscoveranuclearmissilesiteandsotheCubanMissileCrisisstarted.
Kennedyoffersarequest:thatbothsidesbeginanewthequestforpeace,beforethedark
powersofdestructionunleashedbyscienceengulfallhumanitytotheSovietUnion.Inan
attempttocreatepeace,KennedyreachesouttotheSovietUnionandasksthemtounarm
themselvesfromtheirdestructiveweaponsforthesakeofhumanity,thusaddressingitasamoral
actinsteadofapoliticalact.Later,onKeJune10,1963KennedygavehisAmericanUniversity
AddresswhereheformallyaskedtheSovietUnionforatreatyinordertostopnucleartestingin

hopesofformingpeacebetweenthetwonations.Inthemistsofthecoldwar,Kennedyhad
manydecisionstomakeconcerningAmericaspositionandasafepathforthecountrytotake,
andKennedyhadaplantomakeitthrough.
TheUnitedStateswaseagertospreaddemocracytomanycountriesafterWorldWarII
inordertogainpoliticaldominanceovertheSovietUnionandcommunism.Tothoseoldallies
whoseculturalandspiritualoriginsweshare,wepledgetheloyaltyoffaithfulfriendsKennedy
saysinhisspeech.Tryingtoestablishandrenewcurrentalliancesandtreatieswiththosewho
sharesimilarviewsasAmerica,inotherwords,tounitewiththosewhosupportademocracy.
However,allofthesealliancesfrombothsidescreatedagreatseparationthroughouttheworld.
OnAugust13,1961theBerlinWallwasconstructedandveryrealbarrierdividedpeopleof
differentpoliticalviews.Americaattemptedtheirbesttospreaddemocracybutcountrieswere
notsowillingtoacceptdemocracy,soAmericausedtheirmilitarytoshowcountriesthat
Americawasastrongforceandthattheywouldbetheidealally.Asaveteran,Kennedy
promotedthearmedforcesandencouragedmorepeopletojoinsayingthatitwasanhonorto
joinanditwasdutytothecountry.SuchpromotionfromKennedyincreasedtheamountofmen
enlistedinthemilitarygreatly,aswellasitboostedtheactofpatriotismbecausemenstarted
joiningforthefactthattheyweredoingitforAmericaandtheirfreedom.Communismwasso
dislikedbyAmericansthatitbuiltmanynewrelationsbecausesomanypeoplewereableto
standbehindasimilaropiniontogether.
