    WhenPresidentMcKinleywasassassinatedin1901,Roosevelttookofficeattheageof
    42andbecametheyoungestpresidentinAmericanhistory("TheodoreRoosevelt."

    ).Afterthreeyearsinoffice,Rooseveltwasreelectedforanotherterm.President
    Rooseveltwasamanwhovaluedtheenvironmentandbelievedinstrongprogressivereforms.
    Inhisinauguralspeech,hespokeoftheaspirationshehadfortheUnitedStatestoremainamong
    themostpowerfulnationsoftheworld.Healsohopedtocreateabetterlivingenvironment,not
    onlyforthepeoplewhowerelivinginAmericaatthetime,butforfuturegenerations.
    BecauseAmericawasnotenduringmuchhardshiporstrife,Rooseveltsaddressfocuses
    moreonimprovingthecountryratherthanfixingit.Theeffectsofhisspeechconsistofchanges
    suchashisenvironmentalistandeconomicreformsalongwithhisplanstostrengthentheUnited
    Statesdefenseforces.
    Inthisspeech,PresidentRooseveltoftenreferstohisaudienceas[his]peoplewhich
    createsasenseofbelongingformanyAmericans(Roosevelt,Theodore:InauguralAddress).
    ThisdisplaysRooseveltsemploymentofpathoswhichappealstotheemotionsoftheAmerican
    people.Inaddition,tomakehimselfsoundmoreconvincingandsophisticated,Rooseveltusesa
    highlevelofdictioninhisinauguraladdress.Thisshowshisintelligenceandconvincesthe
    Americanpeoplethatheisamanwhotheycantrusttocareforthenation.Theutilizationof
    theserhetoricaldevicesiscrucialtohisinauguraladdressbecausetheycausethepeopleof
    Americatotrustinhimandmotivatethemtohelphimachievethegoalsheoutlinedinhis

    address.Inotherwords,thenationwasnotundergoinganyeconomichardshipbutwasstillable

    minimumwageforwomenaneighthourworkdayasocialsecuritysystemanationalhealth

    Service).Becauseofhiseffortstoconservetheenvironmentandhelpanimalskeeptheirhomes,
