Wilson, H. (2015). The triumph of the gun-rights argument: Why the gun control debate
is over. ABC-CLIO.
Harry L. Wilson, PhD, is director of the Institute for Policy and Opinion Research
and professor of political science at Roanoke College, Salem, VA. This book
shows that the debate over firearms starts with cultural values and extends into
questions of our constitutional rights, public health and safety, as well as politics.
This book also shares poll results detailing what the public really think about guns
and why. It also explains different components of gun policy and policymaking to
show how they come together to form gun laws. This book offers a handful of
information valuable to me in my research to see how gun control would affect us.

In this video CNN legal analyst Jeffery Tobin examines the text in the second
amendment of the Bill of Rights of Americans Right to Bear Arms. Toobin states
that for 100 years, the Supreme Court stated that the second amendment had
nothing to do with individuals right to bear arms. However in the 2009 court case
United States v. Heller the Supreme Court ruled that the second amendment does
mean that the individuals do have the right to, handgun at home. Toobin also states
that the ruling doesnt really clarify how much more exactly Americans have a right
to; whether its a right to handguns in the streets, or if they have a right for machine
guns, or semi-automatic weapons.

In this video published by USA TODAY, Pastor James McAbee states, "We believe
an armed society is a peaceful society. This is Texas, and everybody has a gun." He
says this just about two months after the unfortunate event of the Newtown,
Connecticut shooting. Due to recent mass shootings and with the influence Pastor
McAbee two Texas school districts have adopted policies allowing teachers and
faculty to carry guns on school grounds. In my personal opinion I feel that in order to
protect schools, there must be qualified individuals present and able to use a weapon
in the defense of the most vulnerable.

John Lott, a writer for USNEWS.com states that it is normal to try and regulate
weapons once something horrible happens such as a mass shooting. However he
also states that by doing so it leaves all law abiding citizens as sitting ducks. Lott
expresses the fact the every public shooting since 1950 in the United States in which
more than three people have been killed has taken in a place where citizens are not
allowed to carry guns. A Gun Free Zone such as Schools, Shopping Malls etc. Lott
then goes into detail and speaks on the Aurora, Colorado Movie theatre shooting at
the Batman premiere. There were seven other movie theatres in the area within 20
minutes of each other. Only one of those theatres didnt allow weapons. That one
was the theatre that was attacked by James Holes, the crazed man who shot and
killed 12 innocent and unarmed people. In fact later in the investigation police
confirmed that Holmes researched which movie theatres didnt allow concealed
carry.
