PERSONAL TEACHING PHILOSOPHY: DANA RAMALHO

Personal Teaching Philosophy:

Dana Ramalho
My personal teaching philosophy reflects an act of care and compassion for each
individual student. I want to help bring out each students capabilities based on their
strengths and motivate them to continue to build on their Academic, Career, and Personal
Development. I will use my counseling skills to not only focus on their academic part of
growth, but also their personal aspects of growth. My teaching is focused on the person
by building character, providing creative ways to learning, and using positive
reinforcement to promote high standards of achievement. My teaching techniques are
designed to build confidence and help motivate students to learn. For these reasons, these
ten self-developed points guide my teaching:
1) The development of each course will have thorough planning and preparation for a
creative curriculum.
Being thoughtful of the curriculum from the initial stage to the very end. Providing clear
and concise instructions that each student can understand and manage. Being
knowledgeable of each aspect of the curriculum and providing creative tasks to stimulate
learning with organization, preparation, and good management of the classroom. The
curriculum will be guided by the ASCA standards, mindsets, behaviors, and ethics.
2) Engaging all students in an effective and varied counseling curriculum.
I believe in teaching students in an effective manner, which allows them to stay
interested in the material and encourages them to have fun learning. I aim to meet their
developmental needs. Accordingly, I believe in switching teaching practices to ensure
that every student is staying aware within the classroom. The focus is to keep them
engaged and motivated throughout their learning process. This includes times of
transition within the classroom.
3) Provide accommodations for all different types of learners to optimize learning
potential.
I will accommodate the curriculum for all different types of learners. Each student learns
in their own unique way so I will produce strategies to bring out the strengths of every
student. This is by allowing students to learn through auditory, visually and other multiple
intelligence to ensure that all strengths are being utilized to learn effectively.
4) Will establish structure within the classroom for good behavior and high expectations.
Establishing rules and behaviors from the very beginning of the classroom to provide
structure to the class. I will establish rules with the class to determine what are good
behaviors. There will be a discussion if the class seems to be disrupted. All behavior will
be discussed to ensure that they are consistently understood. This is to provide an
optimum learning environment, create self-worth within the classroom, and motivate the
students to obey the rules.
5) Create a safe and caring environment for effective learning.

PERSONAL TEACHING PHILOSOPHY: DANA RAMALHO

I believe in creating a safe and healthy environment that allows a climate of creativity
and optimum learning. I believe in setting a tone for learning that allows students to
express their opinion and unique capabilities. While setting a tone that allows each
individuals student to feel important, motivated, and cared for, I want to set a tone that
allows all students to feel safe in their learning environment. I will value each student and
their unique problems that may arise.
6) Evaluate learning outcomes of all students and hold self-accountable with sound
research.
Every teaching strategy that I will use will be backed up by sound research to provide the
groundwork for my teaching strategies. Each student will be held accountable for his or
her work and I will be held accountable for providing successful learning strategies. The
curriculum will be evaluated through assessments and surveys. Any curriculum that is not
effective will be changed or fixed. This is to ensure that students are gaining learning
outcomes that meet their highest potential. I will hold myself accountable to keep
growing professionally and show accountability for the student learning outcomes.
7) Role model key aspects of good character and behavior for student development.
I expect to show all students how to respect one another, be honest, promote good values,
and care for each other. I believe in promoting rich character so that students may grow
and develop into stable and respectful adults. This is to promote a stable, healthy, and
safe learning environment within the school despite the many obstacles children may face
outside of school.
8) Build effective relationships with all students and embrace all cultures.
To build effective relationships, I will make an effort to understand every students
lifestyle both in and out of school. I want to show that each student is important. I want to
allow him or her to talk about their lifestyle to enrich the classroom. This establishes a
relationship of trust and shows that each student is important. I want to be an effective
teacher that is concerned about the students life, and motivates them to improve and
reach their goals.
9) Collaborate with other faculty members committed to the same goals for an enriched
comprehensive curriculum.
I will work with other faculty members who have a passion for teaching. We will move
forward to a common goal to enhance learning and promote a more comprehensive
curriculum. I will bring in or collaborate with faculty who can positively enhance the
learning of my students.
10) Express care and concern for every student within the classroom.
I believe in caring for all different types of students. I want to celebrate his or her unique
culture and background. I want to show care for every student. I will never put a student
down for their failures and always encourage them to try the best that they can. When it
comes to discipline, I will not point them out in front of class but instead, talk to them
quietly. By doing this, I want to bring up a multicultural classroom that has students who
disregard differences in culture, race, background, or gender.
