Step 1. Have Ss pull out reading. Ask
students if they had any questions
about the vocabulary or sentence
structure. Ask Ss what is the main
message of the passage?
Step 2. Pass out handout on
Sustainable development. Go over
Vocabulary words as a class. Next
have Ss individually silently read
through Richard Florida addresses the
United Nations.

Do an extended activity where they address the UN like Richard Florida did. Partners are
Richard Florida and the rest of the class is the UN then the rest of the class votes whether
or not to accept the proposal.
