Animal cruelty is a growing problem in today's society, and it needs to be stopped as soon
as possible because an animal is like a person , animals trust their whole life with us , and
because hunting going to be a problem in the future.
In 1789, British Philosopher Jeremy Bentham wrote, The question is not, Can animals
reason ? nor, Can they talk ? but Can they suffer ? (Yount 4). Animals dont have a mouth so
say oh it hurts, they cannot defend themselves from the people. If the animals could talk or
reason I am pretty sure they would say something when something hurts. But, they dont
because animals can not defend themselves. In the eye of the courts, animals are things, or
property-period(Yount 9). The animals are not ours they are the natures.Humans just keep the
animals because they like them but they cant get through their head that they need to take care of
them as well. If your not going to take care of them why keep them. Give them to someone that
will take care of them. When treated in ways that humans would call painful, other animals
show the same behavior that people in pain(Yount 7). Humans and animals are the same. Not
because they are animals they should be treated different. If a animal and a human would get
pinched, they both going to feel a little pain.

Speciesism with a racism and sexism, saying that neither race, gender, nor species is a
justifiable reason for discrimination(Yount 6). No matter what race, gender, sexism or species
should matter. Like you treat your parents you should treat your animals.About 70 percent had
no living children and 90 percent shared their homes with at least one animal (Yount 13). Now
and days more people have animals in their house living with them. Most of the humans that
have a animal living with them have no living children.because animals have no legal standing,
attorneys cannot file suits on their behalf even when the animals are treated in ways that appear
to violate existing laws(Yount 9). Animal cruelty is against the law. People think they can just
mistreat a animal and get away with it, which sometimes they do. But, if someone would see
them mistreat a animal, they could go to jail for some years or pay a fine. There is no
fundamental reason why animals could not be defined as legal persons (Yount 11). Animals are
like people. They can feel like a human so why make an animal suffer. They have feelings like a
person does. If you wouldnt want someone hitting your and mistreating you then why do it to an
animal.
1200s animals should be treated kindly(Yount 119). In the 1200s a man said animals
should be treated kindly. He is right because why have a animal if you are going to mistreat it.
Give it to a person that will treat it kindly and not make them suffer. Hunters and animal right
activists disagree about how cruel hunting is(Yount 74). Hunters disagree because they used to
mistreating animals. They kill animals in the seasons so they really dont feel bad mistreating a
animal. They dont think about it, they just think oh it is hunting season time to kill some deer.
They have hound dogs that help them find the animals they going to kill. Most of the hunters if
one of their hound dogs get injured they just get rid of it because that hound dog is not going to

be good no more. Some of the hunters dont even think about taking there dos to the vet if they
get injured. by april 2006, 43 states, the district of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin
Islands classified severe animal abuse as a felony (Yount 26).
In 2006 43 states made severe animal abuse a felony. If they didnt make it a felony
humans would keep abusing animals like nothing. If it was not stopped soon animal abuse could
of gotten much worse then it was back then. Now less humans abuse animals because they know
was going to be the consequences at the end. Several surveys conducted in 1990s painted a
statistical portrait of the typical animal rights activist (Yount 13). Animal right activist fight
everyday for the animals in this world so humans can stop mistreating them. They will do
whatever it take so the animals stop being mistreating. Wise calls the present rigid legal
distinction between humans and animals arbitrary, unfair, and irrational (Yount 11). Humans
are not fair to animals. It is everybody world not only the humans. Animals got the right to live
in this world also just like the humans do.There is no fundamental reason why animals could
not be defined as legal persons (Yount 11). Animals and humans are the same. They both eat,
walk, think, feel, and have feelings. So why cant animals be defined as a legal person. The
proposal that apes and perhaps other animals be made legal persons has aroused considerable
criticism, even ridicule(Yount 12).
Humans shouldnt criticize the fact they want to make apes and other animals legal
person. Supposedly humans comes from apes so why humans making a big deal out of it. Apes
got hand and feet just like the humans do.The only difference between humans and apes is that
the apes live in the nature the humans live in houses. 39 percent of people had incomes of
$50,000(Yount 13). People give money so the animal cruelty can be over so animals wont be

scared to be separated from the people that supposedly love them but all they do is treat them
bad. A lot of animals shelters are being made for the animals that are abandoned in this world. In
the animal shelters they are dry and feed.Many potential companion animals do not have human
guardians( Yount 27). They are abandoned by their owners who supposedly are the ones that are
going to take care of them. All the animals that have no human guardians are kept in a dog
shelter. in the late 1970s, the animal welfare groups that ran many shelters began to promote the
idea that companion animals should be sprayed or neutered as early in their lives as
possible(Yount 27). All animals that are brought from the streets to the dog shelter should be
sprayed or neutered because you dont know if they already where in their early life by there
owners.
Animals should be sprayed when going in the dog shelter because they could have ticks
or flies and other dogs in the dog shelter might get them. Those flies and ticks my spread some
disease in the animal shelter. There is going to be a big chaos in that animal shelter. Its going to
be more work to spray them all after words. Then spraying them when they barely get to the dog
shelter.the AWA stipulates that class B dealers must be licensed by the USDA (Yount 29).
People that sell animals should be licensed because a lot of people like to sell animals. Most
humans make their female animal have babies to just sell them and make money. They dont
think of the pain the female animal goes through. All they care about is the money the animal is
going to make them make. Cross breeding is very common in this world by humans especially
dogs. If the right dog is cross breed by the right other dog they can make some expensive dogs
and thats a lot of money for those that do that. People will actually but that good cross breed dog
just to cross breed it with another dog so they can make money also.2006 stated that out of

about 5,000 shelters in the US a mere of 800 are considered to kill(Yount 28). Most shelters
have thousands of animals every year coming in to their shelter every year. They have so many
animals they cant keep keeping the old ones there.
They have to kill them to make space. Which is wrong because it is not them other
animals fault they dont have enough space for every animal.Mid-1980s began to establish nokill shelters(Yount 28). It is good that some shelters do not kill animals that have been there for
a long time. Those shelters feed and keep them animals warm.there lives are likely to be short in
the shelter once turned in(Yount 28). Once they in the shelters there life in there is short if they
are in the shelters that kill. Some 8 million to 12 million dogs and cats arrive at pounds or
shelters in the United States every year( Yount 27). There is a lot of animals that dont have a
home or guardians in the United States. Adopting a animal is the best thing to do. Dont adopt
just to cross breed adopt them to make them feel wanted and to treat them right because animals
and humans are the same. Pet protection act passed in 1990 ( Yount 29). In 1990 the per
protection passed. Which is a good thing because animals are protected by law. They dont have
to worry about the humans that treat them bad anymore. hunters maintain that they usually
accomplish a clean kill(Yount 74). Hunters most of the time make clean kills on deers because
if they dont they wasting meat. If they dont they could be fined.the animal dies
instantly( Yount 74). The animal that is shot need to die instantly because if they do not they
suffer and that would be animal cruelty.One animal is wounded and escapes( Yount 74).
Hunters can only let one animal escape that was wounded. If they let more then one animal
escape that was wounded they could be fined also. If every hunter left a lot of animals go and
they where wounded an a lot of animals would be suffering from the wounds that the hunters left

them. the United States in unlikely to outlaw hunting as a whole (Yount 76). We all know that
the United States will not outlaw hunting as a whole. Most people in U.S hunt for a living. That
is a lot of peoples hobbies also. But animals still have rights.
Humans and animals are the same. The only difference is that they are animals. Animals
and humans should be treated the same because they have the same rights. Animals rights was a
big problem before they made laws of being a felony is an animal is mistreated. Since then less
animals have been miss treated in the United States. Humans should go to jail for a long time if
they are caught abusing a animal in The United States.
