History Reflection
After reading the history framework I am aware that as a teacher I am expected to know
about California, US, world, economics, political since and geography. I am aware that history
isnt the most exciting subject for most students and it could get boring as we get older but as a
teacher its our responsibility to make history a fun subject. As a teacher we should know many
students dont learn just by reading books, so its our goal to find new ways to make history fun
and find activities that will help our students learn.
I have taken classes here at California State University, Dominguez Hills that have
prepared me to teach history. In my history 301 we learned about the history in our communities
and families. I feel like when we first teach history to a student we began to teach them their own
history. For example, we will create a family tree they will help them see who is part of their
family and who they consider family (pets). Another class that has prepared me is LBS 375- The
California Experience. I feel that after taking this course I feel confident enough to teach students
about the history of California. I learned so much in this class and found out very interesting
things about Californias History.
I feel like I would be able to teach fourth grade history without any problem. My LBS
375 class taught lot about the gold rush, the missions, the aqueducts and other important events
that occurred in California. I feel like I have the correct amount of knowledge to teach any
California material and also nave really great projects for them to create. I also feel like I would

be able to explain to kindergartener what history is by trying to incorporate their life into the
lesson.
The areas I feel less prepared for history are political science and world history. I feel like
I need to take a lot more classes in these subjects in order to able to teach that material. Ive only
taken one political science class the first year here at California State University Dominguez
Hills. I feel like I would need to refresh all that material before I think about teaching tag
particular subject. Theres so much to remember in world history that unwound feel not confident
enough to explain a lesson and explain be ready to answer random questions.
The artifacts that I plan on sharing in my portfolio are assignments that I completed in my
history 301 and liberal studies 375 class. In my history 301 I learned that so much about
communities that are around my area. I got to learn more about my family when I did my family
tree. It was very interesting to know more about my family. Another assignment that I will be
including in my portfolio is the Map Assignment that I did this semester in my liberal Studies
375- the California Experience. Map Assignment #3 was the most interesting to me, Mapping
America Activity. This map required a lot of work but at the end it was fascinating to see the
results and how communities with the largest group of white people did better than those that had
a larger Hispanic or black community. It was very interesting to see how there is a very large
population of white people that live in places by the ocean; I never really paid any attention to
that until after I did this assignment.
The work that I will include in my portfolio shows how I understood the material and
how I was able to do research in order to find the information that I needed. I feel like I will
using some of the assignments I did in these classes and also assign them to my students. Ill

make sure that I always check for understanding just how Barak Rosenshine states Frequent
checks for understanding should be used during teacher directed instruction so that I can see
that they are understanding the material.
