Inhistory,thepresidentialinauguralspeecheswerenotonlyintendedtopersuadecitizens
tocravechangetheyalsoservedtoexpressthepresident'snationalconcernsinthecountryand
howtheyintendedtoresolvethem.FranklinD.Rooseveltsinauguralspeech,recordedin1945,
beganthemovementstoimprovethesuccessofthenation.DuringthetimeoftheGreat
Depression,theUnitedStatesneededanimpetustoregainandreformthegovernment.Hopingto
benefitthecountry,FDRcontributedhisideasandviewpoint.Hewaselectedasthethirty
secondpresidentwhichbenefittedtheUnitedStatesinalargemannerfurthermore,throughhis
speechhementionedissueswhichwouldbesolvedunderhiscontrol.
TheoutcomesofWorldWarIIbroughtalongmanyeconomictroubleswhichFDRhadto
repair.Inhisinauguralspeechhepresentedtheissueofcompaniesandprivatebusinesses
attemptingtobenefitfromthestrugglingeconomy.Facedwiththechallengetomaintainunity
overthismanipulativeperiodoftime,FDRdemandedthecompaniestostopbeing
individualistic.Becauseofthelackofstructureandcontrol,citizenswantedtograsppower
ratherthanconfidinginpoliticalleaders.Asaresult,FDRimposedeconomicpoliciestouplift
thefailing,currentwareconomy.ThroughtheHundredDaysinwhichhepassedamultitude
ofbillstoendthecountryseconomictroubles(MillerCenter).ThesepostWWIandcurrentwar
strugglesinfluencedmanytoonlylookoutforthemselvesinsteadofthecountryasawhole.By
includingtheissueofcompaniesusingthestrugglesofotherstobenefit,unitylackedinthe
country.FDRenforcedhismessageofstrivingtogetherandadvocatedthenecessityof
harmony.Hisdedicationandpositivitytowardsunitingthecountryplayedahugepartinhis
successofbeingpresident.

FranklinD.RooseveltbeganhisterminthemidstoftheGreatDepressionwhichbrought
alongstruggles.Thedepressioncameaboutwhenthepublicpurchasesdiminishedandthe
unsoldgoodsbegantoaccumulatecausingthestockmarkettocrashin1929.FDRsleadership
contributedtoprogramsthatwerehelpfultothepublicsuchastheEmergencyBankingAct,that
permittedFDRtomaintainpoweroverbanksandforeignexchange(Volpe).Thisfacilitated
controlovertheeconomywhichaddedadditionalstability,yetitstilldeclined.Duetothe
implementedworkprograms,theamountofjobopportunitiesincreased.Byreceivingthese
benefits,manycitizensbelievedinFDRsmotivesandhisactionstowardsleafingthecountryto
success.
Alongsidethemultitudeofwarcausedeconomiccomplicationswasthelargeamountof
debtinthecountry.Asthewarcontinuedanddebtdrasticallyincreased,theAmericaneconomy
neededtosupplementforthedebtandlackofmaterialtoputforthtobenefitthetroops.Because
ofthesestruggles,FDRconjoineveryonebypromotinghonorablepeaceastheyfoughtasa
strongnationforatotalvictoryinwar(Peters).Asaresult,workingtogetherserved
purposefulandmanycitizenscametogethertoproduceresourcesandothernecessaryitemsin
thewar.Asthenationunitedduetopatriotismandthecountryswant,includingFDR,tobe
victoriousinthewar,theyrecycledandutilizedtheavailablelimitedresourcesmultipletimes,
beingmoreefficient.
Asthe32ndpresidentoftheUnitedStates,FranklinD.Rooseveltbenefittedthecountry
inapositivemanner.Byprovokinghisoptimisticgoalsandinfluentialwordsofencouragement
hewasabletounitethecitizens.FDRalsoincreasedthestructureingovernmentandutilizedthe

availableresourceswisely,bringingsuccesstothenation.Asheoncesaid,Weshallnotachieve
itimmediatelybutwestillshallstrive.
