Case Manager Meeting 01/15/2015

Failure List
o Large number of special education students failing per semester. Concerns addressed
regarding how to get these students to succeed in spring semesters.
o Per special education department when considering retention of special education
students due to their identified disability
o Perhaps have a staffing to review accommodations and/or modifications, programming
on the students to see how these look in the classroom.
Have before parent conference to show parents staff due diligence
Discussed students who are not willing to participate in class activities and
assignments however do not have a documented learning disability.
Take documentation of interventions attempted with student to show what has
been done and students success with these interventions
o Be sure to look at TDAS as a Case Manager to see how your students are doing
academically
o Collaborate with Gen. Ed. Student to figure out how to boost grade up without having to
go back to ARD
Get in assignments to help boost grade
Do before or after school interventions
o Be more willing to assist new teachers on how to implement accommodations and/or
modifications
o Lynn made a list of students who failed and will send it out to case managers

Plan for Re-ARDing to incorporate STAAR-A


o Darlene is creating a new system to print students accommodations list after a students
ARD and keep them in both Darlene and Beths rooms to have a place for case managers
to easily access them.
o If you feel the student needs additional and/or changes to accommodations please let
Darlene know as soon as possible to have an IEP Amendment meeting and/or Brief ARD
if programming is an issue.

Planning forward for Spring ARDs


o Concerns on students success in school addressed and making sure to get their 3-year
evaluation meetings started early due to difficulties contacting parents (IS, CB, KL, YM,
CW)
o Darlene will provide an updated list of upcoming ARDs for case managers to make sure
timelines are met and to assist Darlene with scheduling/paperwork

Computer Lab should be set up to practice STAAR testing now.


o Username: testnav (NO CAPS)
Password: TNV53147 (WITH CAPS)
o TEA website should allow access to practice tests under this information rather than your
personal username

o Do we need to take of small group administration as there are currently 25 students


taking STAAR-A in the computer lab?
o What computers are capable of using the practice tests?

Lessons learned from December marathon ARD day


o Thanks to everybody for all of the ARDs that were prepared ahead of time. It was very
helpful to manage the meeting

Developing Competencies
o Strengths and limitations addressed in competencies, which were reflected in goals then
to accommodations and/or modifications then seen on STAAR accommodations.
o Will be addressed next meeting

Case Manager Meeting 02/12/2015

Annual Reviews by month


o Prioritized your 5th (Reading then Writing) and 6th grade students who are
taking STAAR testing and need accommodations made to their ARD, so we
can hold meetings ASAP!!!
o Also look to see if any students have STAAR-M on their ARDsThis will need
to be changed!
o Thursday, March 5th is open all day. Lets aim for that day to do all of these
meetings
o Please call parents to make changes and let them know this is a quick IEP
Amendment to just change the STAAR testing section. They do not need to
attend if okay with that. If they are okay to proceed without their attendance,
please write that down and the date you talked with them. Please talk in
depth with the parents about what this looks like to help make this process
more efficient.

o Darlene will need to get notices out to the parents so please get back with
her ASAP (within the week) regarding the phone calls you had with parents.

STAAR-A
o There are some concerns regarding oral administration for students.
o Darlene had a chain of emails regarding this and will get more
information to everybody. We may need to rethink some of the ARDs
done in the fall and do IEP Amendments for the students. Meredith
stated in her trainings if students needs complete oral
administration, then STAAR-A is not for them.
o Work with general education teachers on students who do not meet
standards on the STAAR especially the SS 1 and ICS students.
o Can students still use Math accommodationsblue calculator, charts,
etc.and segmenting work for students so they do not just click
answer choices. Meredith said she would look back at her notes.
o Can individual administration be done on a teacher computer?
Laptop?

Retention students
o Transition must start before the students 14 birthday. The students must be
13 before their ARD to go through this process.
o A Review ARD must be held before they leave the campus. The survey must
be completed and discuss what the student would like to do after graduation.
The student must be present at the meeting as well.
o Connie has met with some students in the beginning of the year to talk about
this after their hearing and vision screenings. She said she would be willing
to visit with all of the students next year if it can be planned out in advance.

STAAR Amendments
o Double check all ARDs especially on the Accommodations/Modifications page.
Make ARDs as specific as possible to meet the needs of the students in each
area. Make sure to take off anything the student is not using and/or add in
new.
o Went over the list of Amendments needed for STAAR and transitions
Interpreting and Recording
o We need to make sure to be silent and not have side conversations while
interpreting and/or recordings are occurring
o Please remember that ALL conversations are recorded and be cautious of
what you are saying
o Please stay quiet until Darlene has finished the recorder
