Novena Prayer for Our Dear Dead

ACT OF CONTRITION
All : O my God / I am heartily sorry for having offended Thee / and I detest all my sins because I dread the
loss of heaven and the pains of hell / but most of all because they offended Thee my God / who art all
good and deserving of all my love. I firmly resolve with the help of Thy grace / to confess my sins / to do
penance / and to amend my life. Amen.
Say: 1 Our Father, 3 Hail Mary, 1 Glory Be

FIRST DECADE:
All : Lord, open our lips / and inflame our hearts / and cleanse them of useless and evil thoughts. Enlighten
our minds / that we may seriously meditate on Your sufferings and death / and the pains endured by Your
most glorious Mother; / and deign to hear and receive us before Your great Majesty / You who lives and
reigns forever. Amen.

All : My most merciful Jesus / look down with eyes of pity / on the soul of ___________ for
whom You have suffered and died on the cross.
On the beads of the Holy Rosary in each Decade, say the following:

Leader : My Jesus, through Your bloody sweat in the garden,

All : Have mercy on the soul of ___________.
Leader : My Jesus, through the blows You received on Your sacred face,
All : Have mercy on the soul of ___________.
Leader : My Jesus, through the cruel scourging You endured,

Leader : My Jesus, through the bloody garments that were cruelly removed from Your wounded body,

All : O God, who is ever so loving and merciful, we humbly beseech Thee in behalf of ___________, whom
You have called out of this world. Do not deliver her into the hands of the enemy nor forget her forever,
but bid the Holy Angels lead her to paradise, her true country, that for as much as in You, she put her
hope and trust. She may not endure the pains of hell, but may come to the possession of eternal joys.

THIRD DECADE:
All : Be merciful, we beseech Thee O Lord, for the soul of ___________, for whom we offer to you this
sacrifice of praise, humbly beseeching Your Majesty that by those holy and propitiatory offerings, she may
be found worthy to win everlasting rest. Through our Lord Jesus Christ Your Son, who lives and reigns in

All : Grant we beseech Thee, Almighty God that the soul of ___________, who departed out of this world may
