Question 1

The carriage, shown in the figure above, has a vertical slot that is driven in an
oscillatory manner. The carriages horizontal position as a function of time is x =
3sin(2t), where x is in cm and t is in seconds. This carriage in turn drives the motion
of pin A which is further constrained to move in the parabolic slot whose shape is
described by the function y = -x2, where the y coordinate also has units of cm.
Determine the overall velocity of pin A as a function of time.

Question 2
The angular speed of a 15 inch diameter circular saw blade is 1500 rpm when the
power to the saw is turned off. The speed decreases at a constant rate until the
blade comes to rest 15 seconds later. Determine the acceleration of a saw tooth, on
the circumference of the saw blade, 5 seconds after the power is turned off.

Question 3

Consider the following projectile motion of the ball shown in the figure above. The
initial velocity of the ball is vo = 30 m/s and it is thrown at an angle = 40o above
the horizontal. Find the maximum height H, the time it takes the particle to reach
point C, and the total horizontal range L that the particle travels

Question 4

A racecar is initially travelling at 75 km/h at point A as it enters the S-curve shown.

In order to successfully traverse the curve, the racecar driver applies his brakes and
decelerates uniformly between point A and B. Point B is located 750 m down the
track from point A. After point B, the racecar driver accelerates uniformly for 850 m
until he returns the vehicles speed to 75 km/h at point C. If the total acceleration of
the vehicle at point A and point C is 10 m/s2, determine
a) the tangential acceleration at point A
b) the total acceleration and velocity at the car approaches point B
c) the radius of curvature of the track at point C.
