The Journey of the Brave Men
Back then what did they do to earn want they want? The stories The Story of the Flood
and Noah and the Flood. The Story of the Flood is about a hero named Untapishtim who
seeks eternal life. It was composed before 2000 B.C. Noah and the Flood was written before
the genesis. This story is about a man named Noah who is ordered to construct a boat to avoid
the flood that God sends out. While Noah and the Flood and The Story of the Flood have
many similarities, they also have different concepts.
A massive flood is a disaster that can wipe the worlds population, and the men are
notified by the God(s). In the story, The Story of the Flood, Untapishtim explains In the first
light of dawn all my household gather round me, the children brought pitch and the men
whatever was necessary. (29). Untapishtim acts noble and worthy because he wants to
succeed what he was going for. Noah was loyal to God because it is a great pleasure that God
respects Noah. In the story, Noah and the Flood, God orders Noah Go to the ark, with all your
household, for you alone have I found righteous before in this generation. (61). In The Story of
the Flood, Ea, the God of wisdom, demanded Untapishtim let her beam equal her length, let
her deck be roofed like the vault that covers the abyss. (29). While in Noah and the Flood,
God instructs This is how you shall make it: the length of the ark shall be three hundred
cubits... (61). The similarities about the boats are that they are explained by length and width.
The difference about this is God explains it in cubits while Ea explains it in a way we can
visualize it.

The men, Utnapishtim and Noah, set sail on a journey to complete a challenging task.
Noah has to obey God and protect the good people Untapishtim has to protect himself and
achieve his goal to obtain immortality. Untapishtims flood is explained, For six days and six
nights the winds blew, torrent and tempest and flood overwhelmed the world, tempest and flood
raged together like warning host. (31). Noahs journey went like this The waters swelled and
increased greatly upon the earth, and the ark so that it rose above the earth, (61). Their
journeys were similar because of the flood that both experienced. They are different because
Untapishtims journey was a whole lot more extreme than Noahs. Untapishtim landed on clay,
but his trip is way more dangerous. While Noahs journey is simple and relaxing to the point
where he didnt have to worry about anything. Untapishtim quickly ...loosed a dove and let her
go. (31). Noah waited then opened the window of the ark that he had made and sent out the
raven. (62). Untnapsihtim sent out three different kinds of birds, which took him seven days to
find land. Noah sends out two different kinds of birds . Niah had to wait for seven days to
release the dove. Utnapishtim and Noah set out to a journey to find what was important to them.
Noahs journey was at ease while Untapishtim has a hard time.
At the end, the men completed their mission, but it was merely different. Untapishtims
journey was cruel, while Noahs is at ease. They both survived it. Untapishtim says, I made a
sacrifice and poured out a libation on the mountain top (31). Noah comes out then builds an
altar to the Lord. (62). For Untapishtims sacrifice, he gave the Gods his wine and goods. Noah
s conversation with God after the Flood was calming. Noah steps out with happiness, but
Untapishtim had to sacrifice his wine for the Gods to find him. Enlil made a mistake, and so he
touched our foreheads to bless us saying, In time past Untapishtim was a mortal man;
henceforth he and his wife shall live in the distance at the mouth of the rivers (31). When the
flood for Noah came to an end Noah lived after the flood 350 years. And all the days of Noah

come to 950 years; then he died. (63). Untapishtim becomes immortal at the end of the story
and live with the gods and his wife. Noah dies at the end of the story. Each of the mens journey
were interesting , but it was different journey wise. Untapishtim got what he wanted, immorality.
Noah did what he was told, and got to survive.
In both of these stories, Untapishtim and Noah face challenges that could be different in
reality, Untapishtim and Noah both had a reason to conquer this journey, which worked out. hey
had to both build boats, ride through flood, and find what needed. Untapishtim gained
immortality and Noah got respect from God. This myth can be similar because back many
different people wrote more stories about a flood.
