Causes of WW1

1a. Draw up a table with the following


causes listed down a column on the left
hand side: Nationalism, Imperialism,
Militarism and Alliances. In the right
hand column, write a definition for each
one.
1b. List ten countries that were part of
the Allies and five countries that were
part of the Central Powers.

3a. Draw up a table with the following causes listed


down a column on the left hand side: Nationalism,
Imperialism, Militarism and Alliances. In the right
hand column write what the consequences of each
of the causes were.

1c. Using a blank map of the world, label


and colour each of the Allies countries in
blue. Label and colour each of the
Central Powers countries in red.

1g. Listen to the song and read the lyrics


of, And the band played Waltzing
Matilda. Write a summary of each of
the verses. Use the questions provided
to guide you.

3b. Make an overlay map of the world, clearly


marking which countries were part of the Allies and
which were part of the Central Powers.

3d. Who was the Prime Minister of Australia at the


time of WWI? Who was Prime Minister of England at
the time of WWI?
3e. What was the battle of Lone Pine? Where was it?
Who fought in it? What was the outcome? What is
at Lone Pine today?
3f. Make a mind map in either MS Word or MS
Powerpoint showing what would have happened if
Australia had not become involved in WW1.
3g. Make a mind map or flow chart in either MS
Word or MS Powerpoint showing the effect in
Australia of hundreds of thousands of men going to
fight in WWI.

5d. Create a mind map showing when different


countries became involved in WWI and why.
5e. Make a video that shows a re-enactment of one of
the major battles of WW1.
5f. Use Prezi (www.prezi.com) to show what would have
happened if Australia had not become involved in WW1.
5g. Write a song or poem about life as either a soldier at
the war OR as a woman living and working at home
whilst her son or husband is away.

3i. Using a Y chart, write what life would be like in Australia during WW1. (minimum of 10 in each box)
3j. Pretend you are a soldier in Gallipoli during World War I. Write a letter to your sweetheart telling her what life is like and what you miss about home.
Make it look as authentic as you can. Consider using tea to stain the paper for a more authentic look.
3k. Complete a PMI chart (Plus, Minus, Interesting) regarding the proposal to introduce conscription in Australia for WW1. You need to have a minimum of
10 points in each column.
