GOALS:
To provide an overview of Melbournes structural history in terms of
settlement, buildings and streets and roads.
Allow students to explore a map of Melbourne in pairs in order to
identify specific landmarks similar to what they need to find on their
excursion.
Encourage students to participate in group work (pairs)

LESSON OUTCOMES AND INDICATORS


The student will:
Be able to complete the worksheet task of identifying landmarks on
the map successfully in pairs
Be able to identify one fact they learnt during the lesson at the end
of class

LESSON PROCEDURE
Introduction/focusing activity (The lesson begins with this activity.)
Teacher
Write objectives on the board: Map Task, History of Melbourne
(readings and question sheet), state one fact you learnt about
Melbourne and its history
Get students settled in the class before introducing myself and what
they will be doing today
Class game of getting into groups of 3,4,7,etc
Students are to get into pairs and complete the map worksheet which
will be handed out to them
Answers of the worksheet will be followed by this task, students will
be asked to correct their own work

numbers of the group provided by
the teacher, if they are left out, they
need to sit back down

with some discussion with their

as they go along

A hand out of the readings will then be given to each student and they will
be asked to read and follow along while a PowerPoint presentation is
shown by the teacher. Ask the students to fill out section 2 of the
worksheet
Answers to the handout will be discussed when this task is completed
