4E Music 21/05/09: Inversions

Log in, then follow these steps

carefully:
Open GarageBand and create a
new file called 4E [Last name]
Inversion Task. (If it doesnt let
you create a new file, right click
on the trash and empty it. If it still
doesnt work, try trashing a past
GarageBand file and empting the
trash.)
Choose a drum loop that you like
and drag it to the empty space
below your piano track. Extend or
shorten it so that it lasts for 4
bars (until 5 on the ruler.)
Change the tempo to whatever
you like within about 15% of the
loops designated tempo. (Not

sure how to change the tempo? It

is in the book- lesson 3, step 3.)
Select the piano track (so it turns
green) and practice playing the
chords we learned last week:
Chord
F
G
Am
C

Notes
F2, A2, C3
G2, B2, D3
A2, C3, E3
C3, E3, G3

Try this new way to play the C

chord, with the G an 8ve lower:
G2, C3, E3
(We will go through this as a
class)
We call it C/G, because it is a C
chord over a G bass (lowest) note.
Practice moving between C/G and
G. They both have G2, and the

other two notes dont have to

move far between chords.
Practice moving between C/G and
Am. Only the bottom note has to
move, and only by one step.
Todays Main Task: Come up
with a 4 bar piano loop (like last
week) that goes well with your
drumbeat and uses the chords F,
G, Am and the newly learned C/G.
(The only difference to last week
is the C/G chord instead of the C
chord.)
