PERSUASIVE SPEECH: BUILDING AN
ARGUMENT
PARAGRAPH 1: HOOK - Write notes for your introductory paragraph. You may do ONE of the
following:
A. Anecdote: Describe a moment in time when you experienced this type of situation
B. Surprising fact or Statistic: Use a fact that will raise your readers eyebrows
C. Rhetorical question: Ask your reader to consider how he or she would feel in the same
situation
D. Paint a Picture: Use descriptive language and details to allow your audience to
envision the situation
E. Make a Bold Statement: Shock your audience and engage them
