MENTORING AGREEMENT

Leadership Development Program


This agreement is between the Mentor, Melissa Rakes, and the Mentee, Chris Hainsworth, and
will last for the duration of the Mentees participation in the Leadership Development Program
The Mentees objectives for the Mentoring Program:
Develop a broader knowledge of Delaware Tech
Strengthen understanding of state budget process from an academic/educational

institution perspective
Expand understanding of Student Services Division
Develop and implement strategies to balance all Delaware Tech professional
responsibilities

Specific assistance Mentor will provide to assist Mentee in achieving objectives:

Connect Chris with stakeholder groups and committee leads


Help Chris identify opportunities to meet his leadership development goals
Serve as a resource to help Chris understand roles and responsibilities of different
stakeholder groups
Provide guidance and support for completion of LDP activities
Provide assistance in navigating Delaware Tech policies, procedures, and
expectations as needed
Provide feedback on reflective summaries for each activity/seminar within one
week after Chris submits
Assist Chris in developing strategies to balance his Department
Chair/Instructional and LDP responsibilities
Meet with Chris once monthly (in person or phone/email) to discuss program
(reflections, ideas, concerns, etc.) and share feedback

Steps Mentee will take in order to achieve these objectives:


Inform Melissa of upcoming participation in any activities
Follow-up with Melissa after each activity/seminar (email/phone)
Send Melissa the draft reflective summary for each activity/seminar within one

week of completing the activity/seminar (if a conflict arises, let Melissa know)
Contact Melissa when there are concerns about LDP or balancing LDP
responsibilities with other work priorities/responsibilities
Meet with Melissa once monthly (in person or phone/email) to discuss program
(reflections, ideas, concerns, etc.)

Activity Completion in Year One:


A: Emotional Intelligence Survey
B: Delaware Tech presentation to Outside Group
D: Attend Administrative Retreat (activity completion timeline is based on

assignment to Administrative Retreat Committee)

E: Meeting with collegewide coordinating groups and/or committees


F: Administrative Council Meetings and tours of each campus
G: Collegewide planning committee
H: Campus budget hearings
I: College budget hearings
M: IDT G63
O: Volunteer in community

U: Co-advise club

Activity Completion in Year Two:


C: Serve on Administrative Retreat Committee (activity completion timeline is

based on assignment to Administrative Retreat Committee)


J: Assist with student support services
L: IDT core course
N: Leadership resource
P: Three stakeholder meetings
R: Lead project (activity completion timeline is based on assignment to United
Way or Educational Foundation campaign)

Activity and Seminar Reflections will be completed within one week after the activity or seminar
and a copy forwarded to the mentor.
Participation requires an agreed upon schedule to interact that is at least once a month;
interaction may include face-to-face meetings, telephone, email, and/or other means.
At the end of the first year, an in-person group meeting of all mentors and mentees will be held
for group discussion and to review goal accomplishment and refine as necessary.
This mentoring agreement sets forth the objectives that the Mentor and Mentee commit to
working on together. Both agree to follow the guidelines of this agreement and to make a good
faith effort to resolve any issues that may arise between them.
