PROCEDURES
General Start-up Procedures
1. A quick inspection is performed to make sure that the equipment is in a proper
working condition.
2. Initially be sure that all the valves are closed, except V1 and V2.
3. Hot water tank is filled up via a water supply hose connected to valve V27.
The valves are closed when the tank is full.
4. Cold-water tank is filled up via a water supply hose connected to valve V28ave
the valve opened for continuous water supply.
5. A drain hose is connected to the cold water drain point.
6. The main power is switched on. The heater for the hot water tank is switched
on and the temperature controller is set to 50 0C.
7. The water temperature in hot water tank is allowed to reach the set point.
8. The equipment is ready to run.

Experiment A: Counter-current Concentric Heat Exchanger

Procedure:
1. General start-up procedures are performed.
2. The valves are switched to counter-current Concentric Heat Exchanger
arrangement.
3. The pumps P1 and P2 are switched on.
4. The valves V3 and V14 is opened and adjusted to obtain the desired flow
rates for hot water and cold water streams, respectively.
5. The FT 1, FT2, TT 1, TT 2, TT 3, and TT 4 are recorded.
6. Steps 4-5 is repeated for different combinations of flow rates FT 1 and FT2.
7. The pumps P1 and P2 are switched off after the completion of experiment.

Experiment B: Co-current Concentric Heat Exchanger

Procedure:
1. General start-up procedures are performed.
2. The valves are switched to co-current Concentric Heat Exchanger
arrangement.
7. Pumps P1 and P2 are switched off after the completion of experiment.

General Shut-down Procedures

1. The heater is switched off and waits until the hot water temperature drops
below 400C.
2. The pump P1 and P2 are switched off.
3. The main power is switched off.
4. The water in the process lines is drained off. Retain water in the hot and cold
water tank for the next laboratory session.
5. All the valves are closed.
