Abstract3
Abstract: This article starts off talking about how the number of people facing food
insecurity is growing. It mentions, while several factors contribute to food insecurity,
climate change will be a major driver. Indeed, research indicates that climate change
will decrease global grain production 1-7 percent by 2060. After this it includes more
reasons that contribute to this such as how reduced grain production leads to higher
food prices, which will increase hunger among the world's poorest people. Nations in
which climate has a significant impact on agricultural production, such as those that
depend on rain-fed grains, will feel the greatest impact. The impact on socially
excluded groups such as female-headed households will be even greater. in addition
to improving agricultural practices and sustainable land-use management, climate
change and food insecurity policies should also improve local governance and
promote gender equality. The article then describes food insecurity as a growing
concern throughout the developing world, particularly for poor women and children.
The article then describes how to deal with food insecurity and mentions the four key
Analysis: I chose this article because I thought it was important to understand more
about the topic food insecurity and know what different people believe what the
causes of Food Insecurity are. In the article the think the climate is the main cause for
Food Insecurity and it is the 1st world countries fault. They later in the article describe
the steps or key dimensions on how to deal with this problem. They are: availability
of sufficient food; economic, physical and social access to the resources needed to
acquire food; stability of this availability and access; and utilization, including
nutrition, food safety and quality.
