A Problem I Would Solve

In 1982, my father immigrated to the United Stated from a small town in Palestine at the
age of eighteen. He came from a poor family of seven children, all of whom lived with their
parents in a single-room apartment. My father came to the U.S. to pursue a higher education with
a plan to return to his home once finished. His family struggled to keep in contact with him due
to limited resources, and communication was very inconsistent and uncontrollable. My father
ended up getting married and having children in the United States. Hahah hah aha ha aha aha aha

I am a Palestinian-American who has witnessed the inhumane treatment of my people.
On April 25th, 2015, my cousin, Ramah, was arrested by Israeli soldiers while working in the
fields of his family farm with many other family members. Before taking him away, the family
members present asked what was going on and were answered with threats to shoot. Ramah was
hit in the head with the butt of a soldier's gun before being taken away with no explanation. His
family was left confused and scared, there was no guarantee of when their son would return or
even if he would return at all. I have a second cousin who has been in prison for over a year and
his family knew nothing of what had happened or when he would return. I have yet another
cousin who has been behind Israeli bars for over six years, his family also knows nothing of his
return date. Every town, large or small, has people who have been arrested arbitrarily. Every
holiday, families pray for the return of their children and every holiday, thousands must celebrate

(if celebration is even possible under such circumstances) without those whom they love so
dearly. H h h h h h h h, j ,h k j j g k h k Hal h. K v. H
The groundless arrests of these Palestinian people is a direct violation of article 9 of the
Universal Declaration of Human Rights by the United Nations which states that "No one shall be
subjected to arbitrary arrest, detention or exile." This is only one of many ways these oppressors
have disregarded the human rights of those without power or voices on a large scale. H h am ja ja

If I could solve one problem, I would most definitely focus on enforcing and securing the
human rights of people who have been wrongfully (or rightfully for that matter) abused. I would
try and convict large scale oppressors of their crimes against humanity in the International Court
of Justice. The first step to that would be to raise awareness in powerful democratic countries
where the people could influence their governments to support the oppressed and push for
justice. Large, rich countries like Israel have so much power that they are able to influence the
ideas and beliefs of millions of people around the world.
