are my ini,al inves,ga,ve doodles experimen,ng with dierent ideas based on those already
found in the environments my product will be aimed at.
Glass with unit
measurements on it
for dierent drink
percentages indica,ng
how many units have
been consumed in
each drink

Card used by clubs which

is given out at beginning
to keep track of how
much each customer
consumes. When certain
limit is reached they can
no longer purchase
drinks. Could also set
spend limit.

Ice cubes placed in

glass change colour if
certain amount of
alcohol has been
consumed (a
dangerous level) and
also change if drink
has been spiked.

Key ring breathalyser

could be aEached to
keys and taken
everywhere with the
user.

Electronic glass that units per drink

can be added to allowing user to
add all units and keep track of how
many they have had to drink.

These are further ini,al inves,ga,ve doodles this ,me I had focused on technology being used to
measure alcohol levels and ways of this being translated to the user.

Face recogni,on car key

to ensure that driver has
to take the test
themselves

Breathalyser in form
of whistle that alerts
friends if you are too
drunk

Ring to measure
alcohol levels from
scanning the eye
Bracelet to measure
alcohol levels through
transdermal alcohol
sensor

Phone case to
measure alcohol
levels from sweat
on the hand

In my exploratory sketches I began looking at dierent forms the wearable device could take.

I carried on exploring dierent forms along with dierent fastenings which would allow the
user to adjust the size of the product.

Form-
The correct form must
be chosen to ensure
the product is
comfortable and
reliable to users. The
form will need to
support the
technology of the
product. It also needs
to be aErac,ve to the
target market to make
them want to
purchase the product
and have faith that it
will work.

If the correct form is

not chosen the
product could not be
successful and may
not work to produce
reliable results. It
may also not be
comfortable for
users if not correct
and if it is not
aesthe,cally
pleasing may lead to
people not wan,ng
to purchase it.

forms t and

I will test several dierent

forms using models to see how
they t to the human body and
which allows most interface on
surfaces that need to be in
contact with the skin. I will
research into the sizing of the
elements needed to see
whether they t with chosen
forms. I will also test whether
the product reduces
movement in the user when
wearing it. As well as taking
this aspects into considera,on
I will also ensure the product is
aesthe,cally pleasing.

Fastenings-
The fastening of the
product needs to be
adjustable as it will be
wearable technology
however to ensure a
high amount of
interface between the
surface measuring
alcohol content the
product must t well
to every user.

If the correct
fastening is not
chosen the product
will not be
adjustable enough
to t all users
correctly and may
cause the interface
level to be too low
to produce reliable
results.

dierent
fastenings
work, t and
feel.

I will test several dierent

fastening methods using
models to see which allow the
most adjustment and which
are easiest to use for the user
who may be intoxicated during
use. I will also ensure the
fastenings leave enough space
and interface for the elements
necessary for the product to
work. Again I will ensure the
fastening is s,ll aesthe,cally
pleasing to the target market.

Interface-
A reasonable amount
of interface between
the human skin and
surface of the alcohol
content measuring
surface must be
present to ensure
reliable results and a
successfully working
product.

If interface levels are

not high enough the
product may not
work and will not
fulll its purpose. It
could also product
unreliable results
which could be
dangerous to the
user when involving
consuming alcohol.

See how
dierent
forms allow
interface.

I will research into the size of

the surface area and elements
required to ensure that
enough interface is present
between the user and the
bracelet. I will then test this
with models and place them
onto the target user to see
how much interface is created.

Technology-
The technology for the
product to work may
be too big for some of
the designs making
the unfeasible.

If elements required
for the product to

then the design
becomes unfeasible
and will not work.

My nal design is a piece

of wearable technology in
the form of a bracelet
I chose the idea of a
bracelet as I found
through research that the
wrist produces a fairly
high amount of sweat
which is necessary for the
transdermal alcohol
sensor to produce reliable
results
As well as a transdermal
alcohol sensor which uses
the concentra,on of
alcohol in sweat to
represent BAC levels, the
bracelet will also have a
dehydra,on monitor, a
gyroscope and an
accelerometer to measure
movement
There will be an app to
accompany the product.

This is a mind map

of dierent ideas
generated for the
app for my nal
product. The app
will be designed to
allow users to keep
track of their
informa,on from
nights out and set
themselves goals for
nights ahead to gain
points on the app,
in the hope of
reducing their
alcohol intake.

Users can then pick a seZng

for the app based on what
they are hoping to achieve by
using it

As drink eects everyone

dierently users can
insert informa,on of sex,
age, gender, height and
weight to help give
reliable results

Users can connect

the app to any social
media of their choice
to allow them to
share their
informa,on and use
the bracelet to send
and receive friend
requests
Camera used within the
app posts photos to
selected social
networking sites and
helps to promote the
product to the users
friends

There are a series of achievements

to reach which gains the user more
points which gives them a score that
every prole has which is visible to
friends and family on social
networking

A series of emergency contacts can be

added to the app to send messages when a
certain BAC level is reached or if no
movement is detected. This can then send
the message aler,ng someone you need
help and GPS can be used to track you

The night out

drinking can then be
reviewed at a later
date for the user to
see, allowing them
to see their BAC
levels at dierent
stages of the night, a
map of their
movement and a if
they decide to the
drinks they recorded
drinking to help
them calculate
calorie intake

My blue sky idea is an idea which I would have loved to develop however I do not feel it was
the correct idea to chose for my project brief

Car key breathalyser with ngerprint/ face recogni=on
Idea that only the named driver of that car can gain entrance through the breathalyser
