I/we will be able to identify between healthy and
unhealthy foods that enhance the heart.

2. Big Understandings
-Why will having a healthy heart matter when we are our
parents age?
-What do you think would happen if our parents didnt
have healthy hearts.
Knowing healthy foods will help promote good eating
habits. Good eating habits will lead to a healthy heart. A n
healthy heart will lead to a longer lived life.
Having a healthy heart will allow us to do things such as
sports, dance, or even play on the playground.

3 Assessment Evidence
Formative assessment- Students will be put in groups to place foods under correct labels (good or bad) within one 1
minute. Teacher observation while playing the group game. Teacher will perform a review after the game is done by
asking students what foods they places under good or bad. Teacher will observe answers from the students.
Summative Assessment-I/we will make a collage out of foods that contribute to a healthy heart. The collage will be
made out of magazine clippings.
4. Opening Hook
Students will close their eyes.
-Students will close their eyes and put your hand on your heart
-Now imagine a healthy heart and all the activities like running and playing in the summer, riding ride at an
amusement park etc.
-Now imagine an unhealthy heart, your chest is hurting and you keep running out of breath. Its hard to keep
up with your friends outside.
-Now open your eyes, raise your hand if you enjoyed the unhealthy heart more.
-Raise your hand if you enjoyed the healthy heart more.

-Teacher will explain various types of foods that enhance a healthy heart.

-Explain to categories, then ask a student to give them one food from each
Guided Practice
-Together in a group of 4 or 5 students will have multiple foods healthy and unhealthy. They will have one
minute to put all foods under the perspective labels (good or bad).
-Each group will sure two good foods and two bad foods from their charts.
-Ask class,do we agree on each food choice?

-Teacher will ask questions throughout the lesson, and check progress as we move forward. Teacher will
often ask students to repeat food to her throughout the lesson.
Independent Practice
-Students will complete a worksheet where they will circle the foods that are healthy and x out the food that are not.
-Students will make a collage out of healthy foods that they will cut out of a magazine.
