iPads to be used in Computing

Club with Key Stage 2.
The children will have the
opportunity to try out using the
iPads for a number of miniprojects. These projects will be
trialled to be used in the
classroom. As I have Computer
Club with Y3,4,5 & 6 I can
therefore try out using the iPad
for each particular year group.
My club is currently well
subscribed and I will have
realistic numbers to work with.
Staff will have an open door
invitation to come and see what
is going on during each session

(all teachers
welcome to
observe)

Success Criteria

Evidence

Have two (minimum)

tried and tested ideas
to use in the classroom
for teachers for each
year group. These ideas
will be applicable crosscurricular.

Photographic to
show teachers the
benefits of using
iPads.

Have help sheets to

support the ideas.

Evidence of work
they have produced
(if printable)

The children in my
Computing Club having
an excellent learning
experience and in turn
spreading the word of
iPad throughout the
school.

Pupil questionnaires
Pupil interviews

(Mon/Wed 13.00 -13.40)

This ongoing club will be the start
point of the potential that iPad
has with our pupils. Each week
there will be a new mini-project
started and evaluated on. I will
provide a help sheet to go with
each activity that I do. The ideas
for this I will develop myself or
find online.
L.T
Lesson Demonstration
Opportunities

(all teachers)

I will offer the opportunity for

one lesson demonstration every
two weeks in Primary. This will
be in year groups from Y1 -6. I
will teach a lesson which fits into
the curriculum using the iPads as
a learning tool.

Everyday Classroom use in 6T

L.T

(when not in use by another

class)

(staff
interested
who are
experienced
in using iPads
or have been
trained at
Soto)

I will try to incorporate the use of

the iPads in my classroom when
the need arises. I will have the
children storing the iPads under
their desks and have them
trained on using them for
learning. During this time I will
evaluate the Wifi connection and
battery life. I will also see the
effect that the iPads has on
behaviour and report on
methods to help teachers cope
with the behavioural
consequences of having iPads in
the classroom 100% of the time. I
will aim to incorporate the use of
an iPad as part of the pupils

Teachers gaining ideas

on how they can use
iPads in the classroom
for their class.

iPads becoming integral

to daily classroom
practice in 6T and
enhancing
teaching/learning
Have a clear
understanding of
technical issues that
will be encountered
Be able to evaluate the
behavioural impact that
the iPads have

I will write a journal

of each experience

everyday learning material.

Teachers who are ready to try
this themselves (either from
previous school experience or
observing my Computer Club) are
able to book the iPads using an
online booking system. The
trolley will be delivered and
collected from the classroom by
a member of staff.

Phase 2
Teachers gaining confidence
Term 2
L.T
With the access to INSET that the
teachers will have through
various observations and
demonstrations, booking of the
iPads for class use should
become more popular.
Teachers will be equipped with
ideas to use the iPads with
groups or whole class scenarios.
The training will be ongoing and
year groups that do not seem to
be booking as regularly will be
targeted for specific training.

Whole staff

iPads being used in

across the school in
classes to:
-

Enhance
teaching and
learning

Assess pupils
understanding

Be used for
whole class,
group tasks and
individual
learning
activities

Feedback from pupil

on lesson enjoyment
Feedback from staff
of the advantages
and disadvantages of
using the iPads
Impact on day to day
learning in
comparison with not
using the iPads.

Phase 3
Evaluation
Term 3
The evaluation process in Primary will incorporate the following schedule. This will be whilst
teachers are still being trained and using the iPads as in Phase 2.
 Lesson visits by eLearning coordinator
Questionnaires given to pupils and staff on effectivity of iPads for teaching and learning
 Interviews with pupils and staff
Comparison with using iPads instead of laptops
 How effective were the Apps?
Problems with technical infrastructure that were encountered
 Parent responses if any

End of Phases 3

When I have compiled all of the information, I will produce a document which summarises
the use of the iPads in Primary which will be submitted to the Senior Management Team and
Head of eLearning. This will compare all of the actions with the success criteria and I will
draw up recommendations for the inclusion of iPads into Soto Primary.
