Classroom Philosphy
Our class is a team. We will work together in a
safe and welcoming way to learn from every
experience we have in this room and in life. I
believe in encouraging students to be their personal
best. We will respect each other and this room to
create a comfortable and safe learning
environment for all students.

Morning Work:
Independent practice of math & literacy skills
to master grade level expectations.

Science & Social Studies:


Students will build vocabulary and
knowledge related to the properties of

life, scientific
weather,
the solar system, and scientific
measurement. Through school and family
concepts students will further explore
geography, history, and economic concepts.

Writing Workshop:
Students will learn to communicate
through the written word., build endurance
in writing. They will refine capitalization,
punctuation, pronunciation, sentence
structure, and correct spelling skills.
Students will learn the writing process and
improve handwriting skills.

Literacy & Reading Support:


Students will rotate through activities to
practice writing, manipulate sounds &
spelling patterns, develop vocabulary, read,
summarize & retell stories, and build reading
fluency and comprehension. Students will
learn strategies to enhance fluency and
comprehension.

Specials & Recess:


Student will learn to appreciate and
participate in music, art and physical
activity. Students will learn mouse control
and basic computer functions as well as
practice math and literacy concepts on
the computer. Through play, your child will
further develop language, fine & gross
motor skills, problem solving skills, special
reasoning, sharing, interpersonal
communication skills, and confidence.

Homework:
Math:
Your child will learn to work independently
and cooperatively to practice and master
the skills of addition, subtraction,
patterning, problem solving, estimating,
graphing, telling time, counting coins,
comparing, measuring, sorting, sequence,
number recognition, counting, and one-toone correspondence.

Calendar & Weather:


Your child will learn counting, one-to-one
correspondence, place value, time telling,
counting coins, patterns, addition &
subtraction, and greater/less than
concepts. Your child will correctly identify
days of the week, months of the year,
and dates.

Homework will be sent home on Friday to be


returned on Wednesday. Homework folders will
include reading practice, spelling words, and
math facts to increase fluency and mastery.
