10th Grade Research Paper Panel Task & Outline

Hello Ladies and Gentlemen, This school year, the 10th grade History team is taking on a
new approach to the 10th grade History Panel paper based on student feedback and teacher
reflection over the past few years. This year the panel task is different. We chose the Rwandan
Genocide as a case study. The research panel paper essential question that you will be writing
about is:
A) What events, choices, structures and ideas contributed to the genocide of
nearly one million Rwandans?
B) What responsibility does the world have to act in the face of genocide and/or
mass atrocity?
Your paper will focus on:
1) The historical background of what causes genocide (Identity, We/They Division)
2) The human behavior aspect (choices individuals and groups make)
3) How can justice be achieved? (Ex. Gacaca and International Criminal Court)
4) How can we become Upstanders by choosing to participate in order to bring
awareness to the world about genocide?
