Klezmer Music Concerts at the Klezmer Music Venue
May, June 2015: Saturdays, 6pm
Klezmer music originated in shtetls (towns) and ghettos of Eastern Europe, where Jewish
troubadours, known as klezmorim performed at events joyful for the community (such as
weddings). Their music was inspired by secular melodies, popular dances, as well as by
nigunim, simple and often wordless melodies intended by the Hasidim (orthodox Jews) for
approaching God in a kind of ecstatic communion.
In mutual contact with Slavonic, Greek, Turkish, Gypsy, and a bit later, American jazz
musicians, using typical scales, tempos and rhythms, slight dissonances and a touch of
improvisation, the klezmorim acquired the ability to evoke all kinds of emotions, through a
very versified music.
Nowadays, Klezmer music and Yiddish songs include a huge repertoire in which the whole
gamut of human emotions can be expressed, from joy to despair, from devotion to revolt,
from meditation to drunkenness, not to mention the Jewish sense of humour and love!
The Klezmer music will be presented regularly at the Klezmer Music Venue by two Krakwbased bands: Wilde Felder (Vladislav Perevedentsev guitar, vocal and Natalya Rogacheva
violin) and Di Galitzyaner Klezmorim (Mariola piewak clarinet, Grzegorz piewak
accordion, Rafa Seweryniak double bass).

PLAY WITHOUT WORDS!
The play created by Adolf Weltschek and Maogrzata Zwoliska refers to the best traditions within
art, theatre and dance forms. The performance is completely wordless and is comprised of
seventeen stage situations that present a variety of images and their possible meanings. Its a story
of people who tirelessly look for harmony and happiness, against all odds. Simple gestures and
actions, everyday rituals and the passing of time define the narrative as well as the structure of the
stage world, while the plot is based on archetypes of Woman and Man. The artists choose to reimagine gender stereotypes that could have easily been reduced to the ethos of Man as conqueror
and Woman as protector of family and home. To maximize the expressive and artistic possibilities,
the creators of the show collaborated with distinguished British choreographer Caroline Finn and
nine talented Polish dancers.
The fusion of various expressive tools costumes, set design, multimedia projections, dance,
music and lights creates an original stage world that leaves plenty of interpretative freedom for
the audience. The performance is full of cultural associations and certain elements of the narrative
plot refer to the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice. The play is partly inspired by the Polish theatre of
form and the works of artists such as Tadeusz Kantor, Jzef Szajna and Leszek Mdzik.
Przemiany proves that fascinating aesthetic and stylistic experiments can also happen outside of
current dramatic theatre.
