WHAT IS THE TOURISM SECTOR?

Tourism is the activities people do, people who travel and stay in places,
(that isnt where they usually go) for more than 24 hours, not for
business purposes and not for more than a year.

Reasons to travel are: vacation, holiday, visiting friends and/or relatives

and to attend business meetings.

The tourism industry is made up of 5 industries:

transportation
accommodation
food and beverage
recreation and entertainment
travel services

The Food and beverage Service is the largest industry in Tourism.

WHAT IS THE FOOD AND BEVERAGE

SERVICE?
The Foods and Beverage service is the largest industry group

employing over 775 thousand people. (In Canada)

The Food and Beverage industry serves as a training ground
for starting off peoples careers.
It consists of restaurants, fasts food services, fine dining,
pubs and bars.

WHAT IS A CHEF?

A chef is a professional cook that is one of the higher people working in the
kitchen.

What are the roles of a chef:

1. Make new recipes.
2. Supervise activities workers do in the kitchen when preparing food.
3. Wash pots, pans, dishes, utensils, and other cooking equipment.
4. Arrange, garnish and portion the food being delivered by the waiter.
5. Make sure health in area of job is secure to confirm health standards.
6. Make worker time schedules and requirements.
7. Calculate cost of supplies and equipment.
8. Train cooks and workers for preparation for work.
9. Wash, peel, cut, and seed fruits and vegetables.
10. Weigh, measure, and mix ingredients, season and cook food according to recipes or
personal judgment.

Awaiteris a man who serves people in a restaurant or catering environment.

Awaitress is woman who serves people in a restaurant or catering environment.

A waiter and Waitresses job is to:

Check customers identification to make sure they meet the age requirements for
consumption of alcoholic beverages.
Collect payments from customers.
Write customers food orders, sometimes memorize orders, or enter orders into
computers for transmittal to kitchen staff.
Take orders for food or beverages.
Check with customers to ensure that they are enjoying their meals and take action
to correct any problems.
Serve food and/or beverages to patrons; prepare and serve specialty dishes at
tables as required.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

In America, to become a waiter/ waitress, you dont need much:

To get a very good job, it is required that you have a high school
diploma and have experience.

Also, you should know how to publically speak, Active Listening,

Service Orientation, and you need to be coordinated.
