Instructional Strategies/Procedure for the Class:
Engagement:
Discuss similar games quickly
The Middle:
1.The teacher will explain to the class that each group will have one (1) container of play
dough and a deck of cards that lists different vocabulary words that have recently been
taught. (1 minute)

2. The teacher will then explain the goal of this activity:
The first person will look at an index card and read the corresponding word without
showing or telling the rest of the group what is says. That person must not talk, hum, or
make noises during their turn. They will then have 2 minutes to sculpt the word using play
dough. Gestures with the play dough are allowed. The rest of the group must guess that
word for 1 point. The guessers are allowed to look in the notes/word wall/etc.
The next person clockwise will then have the chance to sculpt the next word. Each time a
card is not guessed within its allotted time, the sculptor will share the vocabulary word with
the rest of the group. Their goal is to make the most points possible by allowing all members
of their group to have a turn with the play dough. (20 minutes)
4. The teacher will walk around the classroom to make sure the game is running smoothly
and attend to any students who dont understand their vocabulary words. (Entire lesson)
The End:
5. After the game has reached its end, the teacher will ask the groups how many points they
made and have a quick discussion about the lesson. (4 minutes)
Reflection/Assessment:
Students will reflect on Play-Doh Dictionary by making the connections between the Art
and Language Art aspects by discussion. Students can share what they learned about the
activity in class they can discuss problems they encountered or by sharing new
discoveries.
