Students will reproduce and apply knowledge about the interactions between living organisms as well as the energy that transports through the food web. Students will identify things that relates to the sources of the sun by asking a formative question, "what does the sun do?" to assess where the students are.

Lesson Title/Topic: Energy Flow through the Food Web
Target Concept: For students to reproduce and apply their knowledge about the interactions
between living organisms as well as the energy that transports through the food web. Standards/Rationale: 112.12. Science, Grade 1, TEKS (b) # (9), (C) Lesson Objectives: The student will be able
Assessment: Hand out food
gather evidence of interdependence among
living organisms such as the energy transfer through the food web and animals using plants for shelter with 70 percent accuracy.
web activity sheets to have students
complete and then students will get into groups of 3-4 to identify the correct placement of the living organisms on the food web activity sheet. Play an online game pertaining to the food web.
Materials:
paper cut outs of various organisms
blank sheets of paper with 3-5 blank squares
Lesson Cycle: (Direct instruction)
The teacher will:
The student will:
The students will identify things
that relates to the sources of the sun Focus/Mental Set: Identify the foundation of the by recalling prior knowledge about food web by asking a formative question, What does the sun do? to assess where the students are. the importance of the sun. The students will name things to input in the graphic organizer so that they Write out a graphic organizer on the may see the breakdown as well as board to break down all of the things that comprehend the significance of the relate to the sun sun regarding the energy flow of the food chain. Capitalize on the statements that feed on the food web, such as energy or photosynthesis
If students are not knowledgeable of
relative things that pertains to the sun
then I will list a few things
Teacher Input: Explain the food web and how the
sun plays a major role in the flow of energy within
the food web by giving an oral explanation using Prezi software to display a visual presentation. I will incorporate an online game for the students to play while I continue to evaluate their understanding with this website: http://www.sheppardsoftware.com / content/animals/kidscorner/games/foodchaingame. html Guided Practice: The teacher will put the students in groups to of two or three to demonstrate or apply what theyve just learned by working on the food web activity handouts. The teacher will also monitor the students by walking around the classroom and evaluating or checking their work. Independent Practice: Give students the food web activity worksheets to apply their knowledge individually within their groups so that they may incorporate positive interdependence. However, the teacher will still monitor the students just with minimum guidance. Closure: Do another online game to check for
comprehension and ask exit questions before the
students exit the classroom door.
Students will actively observe the
teacher as she show a visual presentation. The students will also complete and recognize the food web information with an online game to prepare them for the guided practice.
Students will complete the group
work assignment with partners with cut-out squares of the given animals as well as the sun so that they may place them in the correct order of the food web. Students will complete the food web activity worksheets together quietly to themselves. The students will have ability to produce as well as relate to the flow of the food web and its foundation which is the sun.
Students will verbalize and
demonstrate their learning by playing the online food web game and answering the exit questions.
