One of life’s most valuable lessons is that our choices have consequences. Legislation of this sort, while well-intentioned, does not help young people learn this lesson because it actually rescues them from the natural repercussions of their own decisions. cannot support legislation that pampers children who engage in illegal behavior by removing the ‘unpleasant consequences of their conduct. Our Legislature has made underage drinking a crime. The commission of a crime should have consequences that deter the criminal conduct. By removing those consequences, we send the ‘message that disobeying the law is acceptable, and even worse, that accountability is something to be avoided.
