Reflection

Students investigate biomes and food security focuses on the role of the biotic
environment and its role in food and fiber production. This unit examines the biomes of
the world, their alteration and significance as a source of food and fiber, and the
environmental challenges and constraints on expanding food production in the future.
These distinctive aspects of biomes, food production and food security are investigated
using studies drawn from Australia and across the world.

Students investigate the challenges to food production, including land and


water degradation, shortage of fresh water, competing land uses, and climate
change, for Australia and other areas of the world.
Students explore the capacity of the worlds environments to sustainably feed
the projected future population to achieve food security for Australia and the
world.
