Role of Teacher in computer mediated communication

For Technological mediated communication teacher has to perform the following functions :

 Pedagogical/ Intellectual function


 Social function
 Managerial (organisational, procedural, administrative) function

Pedagogical/ Intellectual function

 Traditional teaching function


 Tr. Should know the syllabus & particular course content.
 By performing this function teacher:

• Contributes special knowledge and insights,


• uses questions, probes for students responses.
• Focusses discussions on critical concepts,
• principles and skills,
• models appropriate behaviour

Social Function

Teacher should create a comfortable conducive group learning environment:


• Interact with the students and encourage the group workculture
• Should animate, motivate and facilitate feedback.
• Design activities in such a manner that it encourages working in groups
• Create a friendly social environment
• Promote human relationship
• Affirms and reorganises students input
• Provides ooppurtunites for students to develop a sense of group cohesiveness
• Maintains group as a unit
• Helps members to work together for a common cause

Managerial Function

• Teacher develops content, practical work and interactive activities and plans and conducts the
teaching program and learning activities which includes:
 Setting the agenda for discussion
 Defining objectives for the discussion
 Fixing timetable
 Establishing procedural rules, pacing and decision-making norms
 Managing the flow and direction of the discussion
Technical function

• Make students comfortable and proficient in the use of the relevant and accessible
technology

• Ensure that participants are comfortable with the system and the software
