Creating a Lifestyle Wellness Vision

A wellness vision helps you map out desired behavior changes and helps you find the energy
and motivation to move forward. It gives you the opportunity to dream about the possibilities
that lay ahead. The more that these dreams are expansive, challenging, and exciting, the
more they beckon you to strive for your best self. Creating a vision makes it easier to identify
appropriate long-term and short-term goals.
First, is the discover phase. Draw upon your best experiences and identify core values.
! Best Experience. Think of a time when you felt most alive and engaged. What made it
so exciting? Who was there? Think of the experience in detail.
! Core Values: Think about the things you value most deeply, things about yourself,
your relationships, and your work. Without being modest, who are you when you are
at your best?
! Generative Conditions: Think about the core, life-giving factors in your experience.
Who are the key ingredients, both internal and external, that enable you to be at your
best and have fun?
Your wellness vision should tell you why you want to accomplish certain goals and why the
hard work and effort to accomplish your goal is worth it. Your answers to these why
questions can include some general elements (feeling good about yourself, being around
for your family, being a good role model, having the career or relationship you really want,
etc), but as much as possible, the big picture you paint here should have specific details. You
can generate this detail by asking yourself questions like:
1. What do I want my life to look like in (1, 5, or 10) years? Explain what you want to be
doing, the roles you want to take on, how you want to see yourself, etc.
2. What would my ideal days look like? Explain why youd look forward to getting up in
the morning, the first think youd do every day, who youd spend time with, the good
experiences you want to have each day, how youd face challenges in your daily life,
etc.
3. What personal values do I want my daily life to express and reflect? Include how youd
rank these values if you had to choose between them at any given moment.

! Motivators (Why does this matter a lot to me right now?)
! Strengths (What strengths, talents, and abilities will I draw upon?)
! Challenges (What challenges will I overcome?)
! Supports (What support team and structures will I put in place?)
