Planning: Going
Backwards!
Welcome J
Welcome to a wonderful, new
school year! I hope that this year
is going to be filled with amazing
opportunities and awesome
learning.
In my classroom, I have an open
door policy and that goes for both
students and parents/guardians.
This brochure has been created in
hopes to open that first door in
communication. Here I will explain
how I plan on designing our
learning, and how I will assess,
evaluate and report on our
learning.
My Philosophy
Learning should be fun and stress free.
In my classroom students will be in
charge of their learning. They will have
the opportunity to hypothesize and have
hands on experiences in which they are
able
to
make
conclusions
and
observations.
My students will be
evaluated less and assessed more. My
students will be given opportunities to
practice new skills and receive feedback
on their learning before being evaluated.
With this is mind my students will be
working on developing the six learning
skills and work habits!
Learning Goals:
Learning goals tell students what they should
know, understand, and be able to do by the end
of the lesson or unit. Learning goals root and
guide student learning to ensure they always
know what is happening in the classroom. They
will be posted and visual in the classroom and in
student notebooks.
Success Criteria:
Success criteria are directly linked to our learning
goals. They are co-created with students, with
curriculum expectations in mind, to tell students
exactly what they need to do to find success with
the learning goal. These will also be posted, and
in student notebooks.
Descriptive Feedback:
Giving descriptive feedback to students about
their work before the final assessment is a critical
component of the instructional process. Learning
goals and success criteria will the basis for this
feedback & it can be provided by me or generated
by peers or through self-assessment.
