Whats legal isnt always moral

Kyle Keating-Fleming
legal justice does not always ensure moral justice.
Our legal system is designed to punish those who do wrong and therefore
ensuring that moral justice is upheld. However, I believe that the legal
system does not always reflect what is right and wrong. For example; it is
illegal in Australia for gay marriage to occur, and policeman Mathew Kenny
fatally shoots teen Tony Robinson, the Bali nine schizophrenic man executed, the
legal case that are against all peoples wishes and morals.

It is currently illegal to marry a gay couple because it is against the current PMs beliefs, so
we are left wondering why the PM is against gay marriage even though his own sister is in a
partnership he still wont give it a second thought, PM Tony abbots thoughts My idea is to
build on the strength of our society and I support, by and large, evolutionary change,"
he said. "I'm not someone who wants to see radical change based on the fashion of
the moment. This just showing that he thinks that being a homosexual is just a fashion and
offend many Australians on the air of Sydney radio, this is the leader and repetition of our
country what must people think of Australia, a bunch of immature bogans who doesnt
believe unequal rights lead by the fool known as Tony Abbot I for one am astounded at the
fact that his still in power, why doesnt he let the public decide in a referendum because his
afraid that a majority of Australians will vote against his opinion, what can we as the public
do, start petitions and equality movements make them see a different point of view, make
them see were there wrong about gay marriage, that its not just a fashion homosexual love is
just as strong as heterosexual love that gay families are just as strong as a family with hetero
parents, that gay citizens deserve equal rights, who is it going to harm no one and if you look
at it from an economic stand point more marriages equals more money towards churches and
other wedding related stores/ receptions, so whats wrong with allowing gay marriage when
theres no down side except for going against the PMs statement the being gay is just a
fashion its not that comes and goes homosexuality is a form of sexuality just like
heterosexuality.

On a similar note, it is an injustice that white police man Mathew Kenny was not charged for
shooting unarmed biracial teen Tony Robinson. The justice system has failed in the case of
Tony Robinsons murderer as there was no trail and he wasnt even charged for the murder of
the 19 year old. Though the young Tony Robinson was acting erratically and assaulted two
police officers when he was shot, I believe his shooter should still have faced trial as a crime
was committed and it should be up to the justice system to determine his punishment or lack
of, not one man to decide not to press charges. In order for moral justice to be upheld we
need to give our legal justice system a chance to justify whether he is guilty or not. It is
morally wrong for a perpetrator of a crime to not even face trial, this is an example of legal
justice not representing moral justice.

In to kill a mocking bird the character Tom Robinson is an example of the legal system was
wrong in the case due to a prejudice jury acknowledging the evidence that he was not guilty
but still charging him guilty because of his race, to prove that Tom Robinsons verdict was a
decision of prejudice and not evidence That jury took a few hours. An inevitable verdict,
maybe, but usually it takes em just a few minutes. The fact that they took so long is
evidence enough to prove that they realized that Tom was not guilty but the verdict was still
guilty because they couldnt let a black man win a trial against a white women.

The schizophrenic man that was executed with the Bali nine many people believe that the
Schizophrenic man did not deserve to be executed as he didnt know what was going on till
moments before being shot as he was getting chained up, however I believe if he was up there
he must of committed an offence to cause the execution, but then again if he was unaware of
the execution then he could have been unaware of the crime he was committing.

In conclusion, legal justice isnt always morally right, so have you seen any legal actions that
didnt sit right with you, did you do anything about it or did you just watch, how do you feel
about gay marriage, do you think Mathew should have been charged, do you think that
schizophrenic man deserved to do die, how do you feel about these events?.
