Introduction
Describe why research is used in the gaming industry with regards to
themes, locations, concepts (no specific examples; just set it up)
Types of Research

Quantitative Research; give a definition of what quantitative


research is and a quick summary of where it is gathered and what it
is used for. Also note its positive and negative effects for research.
You need to detail at least 3 different examples of quantitative
research. These can be things like programme ratings, hits on
webpage, sales, etc. Define how quantitative research is used for
these examples and how that benefits a company.

Qualitative Research; Give a definition of what qualitative research


is (more detailed, opinion based) how it is gathered and what it is
used for. Positive and negative aspects and give three detailed
examples; reviews, responses to news coverage, discussion forums,
etc.

Conclusion; compare both types; their high points, low points, where
they would be used, how effective they are, etc.

Secondary Research; definition and what it is used for. Define 4


specific examples of it, describe what it is and how it factors into
the games industry.

Primary Research; definition and what it is used for. Define 4


specific examples of it, describe what it is and how it factors into
the games industry.

Data Gathering Agencies; two specific examples to detail; BARB


(Broadcasters Audience Research Board) and RAJAR (Radio Joint
Audience Research Ltd.

Self-Generated; describe what it is, positive and negative aspects


of it and detail a few examples.

Provide clear examples to support your research.

Purposes of Research

Audience Research; intro to what it is, define all of the following


aspects; audience profiling, demographics, consumer behaviour,
relation marketing and audience awareness

Market Research; intro to what it is, then define the following;


competition, competitor analysis, competitor profiling, Advertising
Placement

Production Research; intro what it is and define the following;


placement media, research on finance, equipment (technological
resources), personnel, crew and renting office space

Provide examples for all of these

Overall Conclusion
Give general thoughts and an overall summary about research techniques,
with possible reasons as to why companies in the gaming industry use it.
