Our 50th Manito Art League Art Show will be held Thursday through Sunday at the Manitowish Waters Community
Center. It will be open to the public on the following schedule:
July 16, Thursday---- 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
July 17, Friday ------- 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
July 18, Saturday ---- 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
July 19, Sunday ------ 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Become a Patron of the Manito Art League!


The Manito Art League has given over $200,000 in scholarships over the last 50 years. You can join us in this rewarding
venture by making a minimum donation of $60 to support the education of students in the fine arts. That entitles you to an
invitation to our Patrons Preview on Wednesday evening, July 15th from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the Manitowish Waters
Community Center. You can preview the wonderful art, vote for your favorite piece of art, mingle with other patrons, savor
refreshments and punch, and enjoy watching this years recipients receive their scholarships for education in the fine arts.

Manito Art League Meeting on Wednesday, July 1st from 9:00 - 10:15 a.m.
The meeting and workshop will take place at the Manitowish Waters Community Center. You are welcome to join us!
Manito Art League Workshop: Painting with Fiber with Joan Molloy Slack - July 1st, 10:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.
Joan will introduce and expand upon techniques that can be used to create beautiful artwork using wool fleece. Topics and
activities will include color blending, adding shapes and symbols, creating 3-dimensional additions and relief, using personal
imagery, and creating a small landscape. Joan will provide all materials for an $18.00 fee. If you have questions, contact

An elegant lakeside resort, recognized as one of the nations most prestigious executive retreats and
conference facilities, is located on the shores of picturesque Trout Lake. We are welcome between 7:00 and
11:00 a.m., so plan to arrive early. They face east so sunrise might offer some great colors and shadows.

The 60th Annual Range Art Association Art Show: Friday, July 24 - Sunday, July 26
Entry Deadline: July 13
The Range Art Association Art Show will be held in the Iron County Memorial Building, 201 Iron St., Hurley, WI 54534. Fine
art in all media will be accepted. There is a $25 entry fee for up to three works of art and all artwork must be original, signed,
and for sale. There will be a separate section for the display of artwork by students under age 18, for whom there will be no
entry fee. Receiving will be on Wednesday and Thursday, July 22 and 23 from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. The reception will be Sunday,

The Presque Isle Fine Art Show will be held at the Presque Isle Community Center on Sunday, August 16, from 10:00 a.m. 3:00 p.m. Fine art and fine crafts will be accepted. Drop-off will be on Saturday, August 15, 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. On Sunday,
there will be a raffle at 3:00 p.m., awards will be presented at 3:15 p.m., and pick-up will take place from 3:35 - 4:30 p.m.

Vilas County Business Incubator in Manitowish Waters: Art Exhibits
November and December are open.
The Incubator is a new venue for artists wishing to exhibit their artwork. It has a display wall approximately 12x14 feet.
Director Barry McLeane offers each exhibiting artist a wine and cheese opening reception at his expense. Artists may replace
paintings as they are sold. Val Bogdan, at the Artists Palette in MW, has offered to receive payments and then to pass them on
to the artist. Buyers must contact the artist for shipment, if desired. The Incubator is located at 399 Hwy 51 South, next to the
former Sissy Lous Restaurant and across from The Howling Dog Saloon, corner of Hwy 51 and South Townline Road.

Manito Art League Squares for Scholarships, Exhibit and Sale: June 7 - July 31
This special exhibit is being held in celebration of MALs 50th Anniversary. Members of Manito Art League have
chosen to honor the past with donations of art for the future by contributing new, original art on 12 x 12 canvas
boards that will be sold for $50 each, with all proceeds from sales going to scholarships in the arts. The exhibit
will continue though July 31, but many originals have sold already . Photos of the original artwork replace the
originals, and they are for sale also. Payment can be made at the Artists Palette in Manitowish Waters. The
Business Incubator is located at 399 S. Highway 51 in Manitowish Waters. The display area is open Monday Friday, 10 a.m. - 4 pm.

Wisconsin Regional Arts Program Exhibit: June 1 - June 27
This is an exhibit of art created by artists from across the Northwoods and is sponsored by the Wisconsin Regional
Artists Association (WRAA) and the Wisconsin Regional Arts Program (WRAP) of the University of Wisconsin.
28th Annual Northern National Art Competition: July 18 - September 11
The Northern National Art Competition is a juried art exhibition co-sponsored by the Nicolet Art Gallery and the
Northern Arts Council. Each year, hundreds of artists nationwide submit works to be considered for inclusion. The
competition strives to showcase a cross-section of contemporary art in a variety of two-dimensional media. The art
is always both intellectually stimulating and visually interesting.

A collaboration between Philadelphias Center for Art in Wood and Bartrams Garden resulted in unusual and
inspired artworks, made with remixed boxes, materials, and trees, honoring John Bartram, Americas first
botanist.

about diverse native species, and explore the shores of Lake Tomahawk by kayak, hearing stories of the first native
people and seeing the burial mounds they left behind. Inspired by the natural surroundings, learn how to create
landscapes using needle felting techniques. Hiking and paddling outings are optional and dependent upon weather.

The outdoor show, a fundraising event for the Lakeland Area Kiwanis Club, will be held in Torpy Park and host

the Parkside Gallery, the Minocqua Museum, and the Loon Land Trading Co./Twisted Root Emporium for more art

Manito Art Leagues 50th Anniversary Limited Edition Print Sale
The print features miniatures of the art of Manito Art League members over the past 50 years and is available for a
$20 donation during the Manito Art League Art Show on July 16 -19. It is available now at the Vilas County Business
Incubator, the Artists Palette in Manitowish Waters, Moondeer and Friends Gallery in Boulder Junction, Odonata
Gallery in Mercer and Parkside Gallery in Minocqua. Proceeds from print sales benefit the MAL scholarship program.

October 8 15: The Wild Atlantic Way, Ireland Tour with Joan Slack
This trip will focus on the southwestern part of the Wild Atlantic Way where participants will explore the history,
culture, archaeology, and secret places of this coastline. The trip will begin in Dublin, then Killarney and its national
park, and the Beara Peninsula. Participants will visit contemporary artists in their studios and top-notch art galleries.

October 20 - 31: Tracing the Past Tour to Ireland with Joan Slack
Explore enchanting Ireland on the eastern and northern coasts and delve into the texture of Irish culture from
prehistory to present. The trip begins in Dublin, which offers a look at hundreds of years of history through its
architecture, culture, and museums, especially the National Museum. There will be special visits to the National
Gallery, Trinity College with its Book of Kells, and Christchurch Cathedral. There is a genealogy component to this
trip for those interested, with Dave Miller offering a class on finding your Irish roots, consulting services, hands-on
research, and visits to the Public Records Office of Northern Ireland and the Ulster Historical Foundation in Belfast.
Those participants not involved in research will enjoy day trips along the northern coast.
