EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Teaching is a profession that is commonly known to make a considerable impact on a

childs life. Even though it is an old profession, teaching is still evolving, especially with its
characteristics of philosophy and methodology. A teacher is like the captain of a ship, sailing on
uncharted waters with his or her students. The captain is there for his or her students in both
good times and bad, and it is that captains duty to steer his or her students in the right direction
according to what the captain sees fit. This significantly correlates with the role of an educator.
My dream is to educate students at the elementary level, preferably around first to third grade. To
achieve this dream, it is imperative that I, as the educator, have a philosophy and methodology
that continually alters to accommodate the various learning styles of my students. My personal
philosophy of education accommodates my students diverse learning style, so that they can have
a remarkably successful education in which they develop a deep love for learning.
With any component of ones personal philosophy of education, the role of the teacher is
an essential aspect. My role as an educator is to transfer my love of learning to my students. With
this philosophy, my motive of transferring my love of learning will cause each of my students to
learn what is being taught to them, and they will enjoy doing so. In addition, I will hold myself to
being the center of knowledge to my students and sparking my students to think critically in
which they draw the knowledge out of themselves. My role then coincides with my students
role, otherwise known as the view of my students. I will hold my to students to the responsibility
of discovering through me prompting them with a higher order of thinking.
Just as the role of both the educator and learner are essential components to a teacher's
philosophy of education, curriculum is also an element that constitutes an effective philosophy of
education. I plan on teaching all subjects that are required by my district due to my target grade
level being the elementary level. As an elementary education teacher, I believe that each subject

is equally important in its own way. Each subject will apply to not only the students future but
also their present day life, which is why I cannot merely choose one subject over another.
The way I execute my curriculum greatly lies on my methodology. I plan on having my
methods greatly correlate with the Socratic Method due to the implementation of the Common
Core in the United States. I believe it is my role to draw the knowledge out of my students in
which I am held up to as the center of instruction. In addition, though, I will approach this
method in a manner that my students feel as though they have just as much of a part in the
classroom as I do. As for my environment in my classroom, I hope to make my classroom an
environment in which my students know that they are loved and cared for.
The education of virtues and values, also known as character education, is just as
important as the above components of my philosophy of education. I will make it my mission to
teach the values of respect, compassion, service, and integrity, in addition to many more, by
being a role model of these values and having students successfully promote these values in reallife situations.
In conclusion, my personal philosophy of education is the concrete foundation to how
my classroom will be conducted. Having an understanding in my methods of being the center of
knowledge and my overall personal philosophy of education will help me successfully instruct
my students. In all, I plan on my philosophy conducting a learning environment that
encompasses gaining the knowledge of the required curriculum with an integration of character
education in which they can develop a deep love for learning.
