Is It Fair? Play with a partner. Use the 5 Steps for Probability Experiment to determine if each game is foir. When you experiment (play the game), keep track of your rolls and points. For each game, answer the following questions: * sit fair? Why or why not? + Ifitis not fair, how would you make it fair? ‘+ If the game consisted of 100 rolls instead of 36, how many points would you expect each player to have at the end of the game? Explain your reasoning. Addition Evens Odds Game Player A and Player B take turns rolling two number cubes. If the sum of the cubes rolled is odd, Player A scores | point. If the sum of the cubes rolled is even, Player B scores | point. The player, with the most points after 36 rolls wins. Multiplication Evens Odds Game Player A and Player B take turns rolling two number cubes. If the product of the cubes rolled is odd, Player A scores | point. If the product of the cubes rolled is even, Player B scores | point. The player with the most points after 36 rolls wins. When you're finished... * Add your experimental data to the whole class charts. + When you play the game of Monopoly, you sometimes end up in jail is to roll a double. What is the probability of getting out of double? ‘+ Design your own dice game that is fair. Justify why your game is fair. + Pose a question about the fairness of your favorite card game. Use a probability exploration to answer and justify your question. * Check out resources for probability by googling: NCTM Illuminations Lessons, NLVM, & Gizmos il".
