2 days; 50 minutes each day

I can analyze the effectiveness of phrases and keywords based on the search
strategies.
I can use search strategies effectively to find information on healthy food
that is easy to make.
I can use search strategies effectively to find information on an animals
internal and external structures.
Note: Students have prior knowledge of the importance of setting a purpose
before searching on the Internet as well as basic computer skills including
how to launch the Internet (Chrome, Internet Explorer, FireFox, etc.)

Introduce lesson by stating the objectives/ I can statements listed

Remind students how to log onto the Internet (use Google Chrome)
Explain that you want to learn more about poetry written during the
Holocaust, reminding students that this is the purpose for the
research
Model typing long phrases with unnecessary words into the text box
Use Think Aloud strategy while scrolling down the first page of
resultsthinking aloud that I didnt find what I was looking for
Introduce the 6 strategies that are important to use for effective
searching (Be specific, Be exact, Be direct, Be distinct, Be succinct,
Be concise) and explain what each means

of phrases/keywords that align with purpose of research using the 6
skills/strategies

Use Think Aloud strategy again while reviewing what the search
engine produced, acknowledging that from the hyperlinks (students
have prior knowledge of hyperlinks) the search was effective
Invite students to get out their mini dry erase boards

Inform students that we will search for our next read aloud text, a
narrative with cultural relevance and character traits evident
throughout the text, explaining that this is the purpose of our search
Ask students to brainstorm keywords or phrases that would be
important to use when searching for information on our topic and
record them on the mini dry erase boards
Remind students that our purpose of the search
Prompt students to share their ideas with their Think, Pair, Share
partner and change anything that may not be specific, exact, direct,
distinct, succinct, or concise
Students will take turns typing their search into the text box while
the other students assess their classmates word choice based on the
criteria or strategies learned; students will share their thoughts/ideas
with one another and make appropriate changes if necessary
4-5 students will repeat this process at the computer while the other
students assess and analyze their word choice; changes will be made
based on student audience feedback

Students will work in groups of three at a computer using the class


Weebly website
The students will follow the prompts and links to complete the
assignment which entails the students analyzing given phrases/words
and using them to search the Internet to learn more about healthy
food
Students will take notes on what they notice each search found; once
finished they will comprise their notes and publish a final product of
notes in a Word document and upload it to the class Weebly website
Students will also collaborate together to write ONE new phrase that
uses the strategies learned in the lesson; this too will be uploaded to
the Weebly class website
Students will analyze the phrases/keywords about food provided on the
class Weebly website and determine why they are not effective, identifying
if they are not specific, exact, direct, distinct, succinct, or concise or if it is
