Technology in Special Education Classroom

Course Description: This course is designed to demonstrate the uses of


technology in the special education setting. In the next 5 weeks of this training,
educators will gain knowledge of the trends that are being used in the special education
classroom
Course Objectives:
In this course, participants will be introduced to adaptive technology that supports the
curriculum, participation and progress of special education environment. Participants
will examine and analyze how innovative technology has effective special education
setting and learn how integrating adaptive technology has facilitated not just learning
but change static learning into more flexible.
Once participants have completed this course, teachers will know:

Resources Requirements:

Computer for internet access


Access to MS Office suites or a package that is compatible
iPad (BYOD-Bring your own devices)

Textbook
There is no specific textbook required for this course. However, participants
will use resources such as journals, online resources, and book.

93.5 - 100% = 4.0 (A)

89.5-93.4%=3.7%
86.5-89.4%=3.3 (B+)

69.5-73.4%=1.7 (C-)
66.5-69.4%=1.3 (D+)
63.5-66.4%= 1.0 (D)

Read the article by Terence Cavanaugh on The need for
Assistive Technology in Education Technology
Participation in Week 1 Discussion
Analyze how AT is being used within your classroom,
and consider the validity of the tool, and how the use of
tools can be implemented more.

your classroom.

Discussion board: When testing and observing apps, which


apps would choose that align with curriculum and better with
students IEP goals? How do you believe the student would
respond to apps?
Week5

Topic: Exploring and finding Assistive Technology for the


Classroom
Activity: Read and note key points in the TechMatrix consumer
guide when purchasing or to learn more about technology that
is beneficial to students with special needs or within the special
education classrooms.

Search through provided list of apps (week 4) and select


at least 3 apps. Demonstrate how it can be applied in
your daily classroom activities.

On iPad or tablet briefly jot down your finding and


provided examples of how you would apply the apps to
your classroom activities.

Be prepared to share your findings and experience with


the group.

*Submit AT research assignment


Discussion board: Describe at least three key element that
you learn from the TechMatrix Consumer Guide.
