The meeting that never was

After the long windy night, the sunshine that hit upon my face in the morning was like
bliss. I just wondered if Newton had discovered gravity sitting under the apple tree,
the idea of photoelectric effect must have stroke the einsteinian mind at the stroke of
sunrise for it is such a delight to start your day with a portion of the heavenly energy
symbolising you to search for truth.
Well, energetic I was and I had to be. Just a day before, I had topped my district in
cbse 12th boards and this was the day when more rewards would follow: a newspaper
post with my photograph, a cash award from school, a prized wristwatch from an
uncle and a letter of appreciation from the district magistrate. I sure should have been
upon cloud 9 for I had emulated everyone before, set my own record. But was this I
was longing for? Was this I had made the promise about, way back in class eleventh?
In the evening I hit the place, old canal in the suburbs, the same spot the promise was
made 2 years ago. Lets rather call it an agreement; an agreement to not see my
beloved unless I succeed in the endeavour I had pursued. I still remember that evening
two years ago. She looked pinkish and serious. Something was definitely troubling
her from within but she talked straight forward. I will see you only when you finish
your school with flying colours, this very place, this very time. I had a lump in my
throat. Finally, I had agreed with sore eyes and determined I was. I had to prove
myself, prove my love and my sincerity, prove that I cared and was worth her. But
where was she today? Nowhere to be seen on any side up to horizon! Was this I had
been putting my blood, sweat and tears for? Was this the outcome of the surge, the
long awaited moment of glory?
