Ms.

Johnsons Classroom Policies

!

Dear Parents and Guardians,

As we approach the school year, I believe it is important to communicate with
you about my classroom behavior expectations and policies as early as possible. I
believe in a classroom where the students make group decisions regarding discipline and
classroom management and are responsible for following the rules they have created
for themselves. In addition to our class-created rules I have a few of my own that I
expect to be followed daily:

1.
2.
3.
4.
5.

Respect

Honesty and Ethic

Effort and Positive Attitude

Tact/Couth

Responsibility and Independence

I expect my students to be in my class on time and ready to learn with all of

their materials (pen/pencil, notebook, folder and positive attitude) every day. I expect
them to treat their peers with the same respect they would like to receive. Bullying
will not be tolerated in my class whatsoever and students who choose to act with
disrespect will be disciplined immediately and accordingly. It is my hope that you will
reinforce the rules I have listed at home in order to maintain a consistent environment
for your child. A complete list of my classroom procedures is available on the second
page of this letter. It is important to me that we work as a team in order to provide
your children with the best education possible!

Please know that I will be in constant communication with you throughout the
school year regarding your children. You will receive a weekly newsletter from me that
will update you about the material we are learning, as well as, upcoming events. I will
also email you about your childs performance in class and their assignments. You will
be receiving positive messages about your childs behavior and progress in addition to
consistent updates on areas where they need to improve. If your child receives
disciplinary action from me or earns a grade less than 70% on an assignment, you will
get a call or email from me immediately.

My #1 focus in the coming year is the positive development of your child. I look
forward to working with you to make this school year as enjoyable and productive as
possible. If you have any further questions regarding my class procedures, disciplinary
policies or upcoming class events, please feel free to contact me via my school email.

!
Best,

!

Classroom Procedures

Attendance

Students will be on time to class and ready to learn every day. I will follow
school rules regarding attendance, tardiness and absences.

If an absence is excused ahead of time, please inform Ms. Johnson as soon as
possible so she may prepare homework and assignments in advance.

Homework

There will be two homework assignments per week. They will assigned on
Mondays and Wednesdays and will be due on Wednesdays and Fridays,
respectively.

All work turned in must have the students name and date on it or it will be
counted late.

Late work will be docked 10% of the total grade for every day late. After 3 days,
the work will not be accepted.

Students who have an excused absence or other circumstance may make up work
at the discretion of Ms. Johnson.

Students who do not turn in their work on time will have lunch detention with
Ms. Johnson until the assignment is turned in.

Seating

Students will have assigned seats that will be changed every 6 weeks. Seating
charts will be changed or updated at Ms. Johnsons discretion.

Supplies

Students will be prepared for class every day with a pen/pencil, notebook and
folder of assignments.

If students need to sharpen their pencil or borrow one, they must notify Ms.
Johnson as soon as they enter class. Students will not disrupt class time with
supply requests.

Classroom Participation

Students will need to raise their hands to ask or answer questions or make
statements.

Talking over peers, shouting or disrespecting other students is not allowed.

Leaving Class

Students who need to use the restroom or visit the nurses office will need to
raise their hand and ask permission, as well as receive a pass to leave class.
