WIRES

Specification:
1) Wiring shall be carried out with 1100 V grade, PVC insulated wires comprising of tinned
stranded conductors of the following minimum sizes:
i) Space heater and 240V AC lighting circuits: 2.5 sq.mm copper
ii) Control and potential circuits up to 250V DC : 2.5 sq.mm copper and 110 V AC
2) Wires shall be preferably colour coded. Wires shall be provided with numbered PVC ferrules
at both ends and drawings shall bear the same numbers. All auxiliary contacts whether spare
or otherwise shall be wired up to the terminal blocks
3) Minimum size of wires in case of conduit wiring shall be 2.5 sq.mm. Copper in case of
lighting and 4 sq.mm. Copper in case of receptacle wiring.
4) Wires of different phases shall be run in separate conduits. However, wires of same
phase but having different circuit nos. can be run in same conduit. Wires of lighting and
power receptacles shall be carried out in separate conduits and on separate circuits.
Wires of AC and DC lighting system shall be carried out in separate conduits..
5) Office buildings, laboratory buildings shall have concealed wiring with 2.5 sqmm cable
using PVC conduits.
6) All small wiring shall be run in steel conduits, and armored cables shall be run in wiring
troughs. Wiring between terminals of various devices shall be point to point (no wire splicing
or Tee connections). Wire terminations
7) Wiring from lighting DBs/panels to individual fixtures, plug points, fans, etc. shall be of single
core, 2.5 sq.mm, 650 V grade PVC stranded copper conductors through surface mounted or
concealed medium duty GI conduits confirming to IS 1239 with earth wire. The wires shall
occupy 60% of the conduit are
