2.4 Design of head regulator:
2.4.1. Fixation of crest level waterway:
RL of head regulator crest = 100 + 1.5 = 101.5 m
Q= : CLL V2g[(h+ha) “3 -ha “ ]+C2L.d \2g(htha)
Where: C1=0.577. , C2=0.8
ha : head due to velocity of approach and it is neglected.
h: difference between D.S.W.L and U.S.W.L
=103.5-102=1.5m
d= depth of downstream above crest = 102 — 101.5 = 0.5m
L =clear waterway length.
220= 3 * 0.577 *L V2 *9.81[1.5]* 3+ 0.8 *0.5 *L ¥2*9.81(1.5)
220 = 3.13 L+ 2.1699 L
220 = 5.2999 L
L=41.51
Provide 4 bays of (11) m each = 44m
3 piers of (2) meach=6m
Total waterway =50m
33Hydraulic calculations for various flow
conditions:
I. Full supply discharge passing through head regulator
during high flood:
U.S.W.L = 106.75 m
D.S.W.L in the offtake canal =102 m
Head causing flow = 106.75 — 102 =4.75 m
Let the gate opening X (m) in flood
Area =X * 44=44 Xm’?
Q=C*AY2gh
220 = 0.62 * 44 X V2*9.81"4.75
X= 0.835 m
Thus gate opening = 0.835 m
Velocity ae = 5.988 m/sec
5.988
249.81
T.ELL just U.S of gate = 106.75 + 0.2 = 106.95 m
Loss of head at entrance = 0.5 =0.913 m
T.ELL just D.S of gate =106.95 — 0.913 = 106.037 m
D.S water level = 102 m
Head loss = 106.037 — 102 = 4.037 m
Discharge intensity = 220/44 = 5 cumecs/mIL. Full supply discharge passing down the regulator at
